corporations are owned by people so it makes no real difference. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 271y14781
Actually it makes a real difference to the destitute and disabled folks who receive government assistance, such as it is. They get a tiny pittance each month - not enough to actually live decently, often not even enough to scrape by - but every little bit helps. These subsidies are often the last "firewall" between people and homelessness, starvation, and/or death.
The huge corporate welfare pigs (Oil, Big Ag, Finance, Defense, Pharma) get millions, sometimes billions, that are most definitely not a "firewall" keeping them from going out of business. It's just extra government pork gravy to them.
A lot of the people on this board are racists, misogynists, homophobes, religious zealots, etc. And a large number of them aim their hate at the specific demographic groups that are more likely to be destitute and relying upon government assistance. They would enjoy seeing this population starve and die, homeless in the streets. They use hateful urban legend/myths like the people on food stamps eating t-bone steaks all the time and the so-called welfare queens driving Cadillacs to help fuel their hate, even though they are fantasy.
I was on food stamps once, for a short time. It was only enough to buy oatmeal, peanut butter, rice, beans, mac & cheese, and once a week a can of salmon or tuna fish, if you were lucky. Not exactly eating high on the hog, like the corporate welfare queens do. More like leftover chitlins.
