In case you didn't know, most local municipalities can evict you from your home within 30 days of shutting off your water if you have town water. They say its a safety/health issue.
 Quoting: General Troll, US Shillitary

In my city, if you have your utilities shut off for 30 days or longer, your house has to be inspected by the city before you can get the utilities turned back on. They fail a lot of houses. When your house fails, you have to use one of the "lisenced city contractors" to do the work. Failure to comply gets your house condemmed and demolished.
Also, there is an ordinance where you cannot have a window boarded up for longer than 7 days. Another gem is if a house is vacant for 1 year, even if there is NOTHING wrong with it, no code violations, the city has a right to tear it down.

Not that the city I live in is any better,
but that really sucks.

Boy you can tell the election is over...

They're kicking people out of their houses because they don't have utilities. One man on FOX said they were threatening to take people's children away from them because they are living in houses without Utilities...

And Con-Ed and NY are taking their sweet time fixing those utilities. Why, because the real estate of Staten Island is way too valuable to be in the hands of a bunch of "Middle Class" people apparently, so they're gonna use this opportunity to steal that property.

Look for some new beautiful condo's on Staten Island soon...

AND, if people do leave their homes, they have no where to go, they closed FEMA centers for a couple of days because about 4 inches of snow...

Katrina II?!?!?

I am in the area, but fortunately higher ground. We were not flooded and just got electricity back yesterday. But until then we didn't have "utilities" either -- but we had a generator and hence could provide all our own "utilities".

Prepping works.

And yes I think OP is right, they're stealing Staten Island, Breezy Point, etc.

You know your stuff. That's exactly what was done in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, and now Staten Island is the new rich boy playground.

I requested a pin for you.

It does seem as though these people have just been evicted from their homes with no plans for them to return. By spring they will have had to make other arrangements.

I don't know what's going on there. I thought all the utilites were almost restored. At least it's being reported that the vast majority of them are.

Now I wonder just how many still don't have them.

No no utilities here on Pirates Cove MASSAPEQUA NY. I have neighbors from Irene's hit that have not been able to move back into their homes. Anything south of montauk highway is dark. They are doing a house by house assessment for elec and gas

This is Katrina II...they did this same thing to people in New Orleans, cleared out whole neighborhoods, bulldozed the houses, and put in high end retail and housing...

If those people leave their homes, the city will come in and condem these houses, and they will be demolished by the time the residents are allowed to come back...

Staten Island is some of the most beautiful Real Estate in NY, NY...

They've wanted to get rid of those "Middle Class" people to build Condo's down there for years...

This is all about the property, not about the people. New York looks at this as a chance to renovate the city...
 Quoting: Saddletramp

Yes, exactly. My sister is still without electricity (Gerritsen Beach) but I think the whole neighborhood is hanging tough because that is what they fear. Two of our relatives houses in Breezy Point were (legitimately) condemned. They want to steal that land and now they will.
For nothing is secret that will not be revealed…
