Look at the date in the story, it was written last March and this only applies to foods that are NOT properly labeled. They are not accepting home-cooked foods or foods that are not properly labeled with expiration dates at the shelters. As a safety precaution...makes sense to me. In fact, I just donated numerous cartons of Parmalat milk this afternoon to a shelter full of weather refugees..and they were deeply grateful.
