That's some crazy shit:
" the Corporation was concerned that a discovery of aliens could violate BBC regulations."

What, are they afraid the aliens would be broadcasting xenoporn? Here's an article about the planet discovery in conjunction with the show:

It's gaseous with similarities to Neptune, so not likely to host intelligent life, but that's not to say another planet somewhere in the same system couldn't host such life. Not sure if the BBC is trying to stir up interest by being deliberately obstinate or if they're really that much of a bureaucratic nightmare.

The only problem I see with that is, what do we have to base no life being possible on a neptune like planet other than we haven't discovered life on a neptune like planet? If we went by that logic, we haven't discovered life on any rocky planets either so that should also be impossible.

If the spark of life started on a neptune like world, it would evolve accordingly to survive in such a world and our world would look just as inhospitable as neptune does to us.

For that matter, if there are alien signals coming from such planet, they have technology and could have moved there from their homeworld similar to the cloud city in star wars. We gotta stop classifying everything as impossible because it's not possible for US.
