The CBO has stated that the deficits are falling so that is a verifiable fact.

The debt and the deficit are two different things silly goose. You need to educate yourself on these basic elements before making such a bold comment or else you will be looked at and disregarded by those who actually do understand the difference between the deficit (which has fallen) and the debt (which has risen).

You're really playing games here, Deandre.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1421478

This will help explain why the debt has gone up (which sounds bad if one doesn't understand what the deficit is)

No games, just bringing sanity and reason into a thread filled with immature name-calling and emotional outbursts instead of productive dialogue.

Deficits create the debt, the debt has increased every single year that Obama has been in office, he can't even create a budget for the year. The fact that the deficits have gone from 1.3 trillion per year to 1.2 trillion is pathetic, and still adding to the national debt. The larger the debt, the larger the interest paid on the debt, and the larger the deficits become.

We are headed to a fiscal cliff.

16 trillion dollar debt
Another 6 trillion owed by Fannie and Freddie the largest holders of private housing in the United States.
anywhere between 80 to 230 trillion more dollars in unfunded liabilities.

So you pick out one number that says things are getting less worse!

Hurray! WOW!!!! WONDERFUL!!! , I guess we can all stop worrying now, thanks.

No mention of the NDAA
Operation Gun Runner
supplying Al-queda with guns in syria
invading Libya because they wanted a gold backed currency
assassination of American citizens by drone strikes
the government spying on the internet
Government paid shills paid to troll the internet.
John Corzine, and MF Global onlly 1.5 billion dollars stolen
All the power that Obama has given to the Federal Reserve.

I mean seriously the list goes on and on.

They are two sides to the same pyramid of power and control run by the same puppet masters.

"Evolution is a 'thing'"?
How about evolution is a biological FACT?

And we're "deprived" because the GOP is currently nuts and we need their rational input? No, we don't!!

Fuck the GOP!!!
They should die and disintegrate as a party.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 27349489

Actually evolution is a theory. Looks like you still need us.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 26870433

Evolution is NOT a theory.
It hasn't been a theory for decades.
Its scientific fact.
There are fine points that are still
under discussion and research and
discovery continues, but evolution,
broadly, is a scientific certainty.

Well, then Rachel, why is it that I don't FEEL better off? Nor does the half a dozen people that mention the election I've talked to in person.

I don't think we can handle another bunch of executive orders - bypassing Congress - or racial divisive actions, comments and allowances.

Obama better start being presidential and begin looking out doe everyone in America. Our welfare and livelyhood is at stake.

Rachel, it is easy for you to comment as such as you are rich and famous. You don't have to deal with Obamacare one iota or watch welfare recipients take advantage of the system.

geez.... I wonder when I will let this go. I fear for this country and my fellow Americans.

Thanks for posting the video osocrzy. I don't watch TV much. Depressing!

I would go as far as to say someone would have to have the IQ of an amoeba to not realize there *is* a debt and deficit problem but to understand how it is the compounded result of decades of things that contributed to it. You named the housing aspect but there's also the war on drugs aspect, iraq and afghanistan wars that weren't even put on the books until the previous president left office, decrease in the amount of revenue (taxes) the government is bringing in, escalating medical costs, one of the major reasons being the degree of environmental pollution that causes medical problems in the first place, and other aspects leading to an ever-increasing debt.

Its easy to see why the Right is so out of touch...some of these comments really give a glimpse into the morality and IQ of people.

Im sure Ill get a f-u or some comment about how gay Maddow is or some other biggotted, small minded reply...I think it is important for people to express themselves and reveal their true character and consciousness...its the only time we actually see the true character of the right...most of the time their hiding behind their own fear mongering, flip flopping judgments and biases that as evidences only exist in their bubble of reality.

I have been watching this crap for so long and It is so
obvious to me what the agenda is. You could have taken her
out of 2012 and placed her in a studio in 1970 and it would be the same attitude and the same type of schpeal.
"We are socially aware and responsible and you are clueless."
So, forty some years later we have had billions of dollars
spent on social programs, the pill is readily available to
anyone, abortion on demand everywhere and most sane people try to be environmentally responsible.
Has anything changed?
The point is, is that we have tried it your way Rachel and respected your point of view
but it does not happen the other way around.
I do not hear Liberals saying that we need to at least respect conservative values
if we are to resolve some of our differences,
or maybe we should support efforts that encourage individual Freedom and Sovereignty.
I guess that is not "real" to you Rachel.

You are defending a president that increased our national debt 43% from 2009-2011

"According to Congressional Budget Office (CBO) figures released Monday, the budget deficit for February hit a staggering $223 billion - meaning the Obama administration added more in debt last month than was borrowed in all of 2007."

Obama's 2012 Budget:

[link to www.heritage.org]

From 2009 to 2011:
•Total discretionary spending soared from $1.2 trillion to $1.4 trillion, an increase of over 16 percent.
•Total mandatory spending jumped from $2.1 trillion to $2.2 trillion, an increase of almost 4 percent.
•The national debt jumped from $6.6 trillion to $9.5 trillion, a whopping increase of 43 percent.

Over the same period, the nation shed 3.3 million jobs despite a series of unprecedented attempts to stimulate the economy with deficit spending, which contributed significantly to this unfortunate fiscal record. The President cannot be blamed for the financial crisis and Great Recession that ensued, but he certainly shares in the blame for the failure of his debt-exploding policies in response.

abolishing slavery was a republican thing, not a democrat thing. Even thiough republicans fell off the liberty wagon a longggggg time ago.. it doesn't make ubber leftists "good" nor appealing.

The reason Republicans didn't win, is the fact that independents didn't get their vote out. By large numbers, they stayed home. Probably because they want less government spending and more liberty socially. That puts them at odds with both sides.

Dems and repubs alike should question the actions of this president. Here is an example:

"At the beginning of this year (2012), only four of the 80-plus federal welfare programs had work requirements; the Obama Administration has now suspended the work requirements in two of these. After the Obama Administration suspended the work requirement from the food stamp program in 2009, the number of people on food stamps doubled."

After knowing what happened in 2009, why oh why did they continue to suspend the work requirements!?

Your link led me to a website with distortions of facts. It would have helped your case if you provided a reputable source that doesn't distort the data to fit into its false narrative. I defend no one. I simply stated that there is a difference between the deficit and the debt. The deficit has fallen, although still high. This is a fact of math. You literally cannot dispute this is a fact. You can dispute that it is too high still but not that it is lower than it was, which is better than if it was higher than it was. Very simple concept here, no need to be a mathemagician.

I know from your link you are trying to insinuate that it is the fault of the current president that the debt is growing as much as it is and if you look to my previous post you will see how this is also something said in order to distort facts into framing the president as the one that is the sole reason why the debt grows while completely disregarding all the contributions previous presidents have made towards increasing the debt ever since America accelerated its aggressive actions against other nations (i.e. wars). This goes back, way back. Pinning everything on the black man is very foolish and short-sighted.

Re: Rachel Maddow wow didn't know you had it in you
...

Nice try, but they get their numbers directly from the Treasury, that is their source. Look at the credentials of the economist who wrote it, and unless you have more knowledge than him I suggest you should pay attention to what he is saying.

This is part of his profile:
"Foster came to Heritage in 2007 after serving many years at the White House, the Executive Branch, Capitol Hill and private policy institutions. His last job before joining Heritage was at the White House's Office of Management and Budget, where he was Associate Director for Economic Policy. While there, Foster led the office's economic policy staff and advised three Directors on developments in the economy and potential changes in economic policy. He was also the chief adviser to the Director on matters of tax policy and led the OMB team in the Administration's "Troika" economic forecasting process. In addition, he played a leading role in the development and advancement of the Administration's pension and private health care policies."

As for responsibility, they do not blame him only

Even though you seem passionate to protect him here, you cannot ignore or be in denial for the 43% increase in our national debt from 2009-2011, because that is tremendous- that is close to an increase by half in only a matter of about 3 years.

Yes, of course. You too.

And just so you know, I am not a Republican or a Democrat. I consider myself more Libertarian.

I thought Bush was a horrible president. He literally made me cringe just looking at him... but really, I think we should question any president we have because our lives are basically in their hands.
