Anyone else noticing heavy acid rain etching on your car?

I have detailed cars for a living and for fun for over 20 years now. I know paint. I closed my shop last year, but kept 20 or so loyal clients who still have me keep their cars looking good.

I'm in Kansas and for about the last 6 months I have noticed the paint on my clients cars getting etched more and more. None of them work or park by any industrial facilities. We don't see much acid rain here.

Tonight I cleaned my own everyday driver. It's an 08 Hyundai SantaFe. The paint is perfect. I use nothing but the best sealants and waxes on it. I clay the paint once a month, and buff it once a year. It has been rained on twice since I washed it last.

Today after I washed it I noticed the etching on my car. Because of the products I use this has NEVER happened in the 4 years I have owned it. It has been 3 weeks since the last wash and the etching was not in the clear coat then.

Has anyone else noticed anything like this on your vehicle?
