Montreal may soon have its first Jewish mayor

Applebaum is staunchly pro-Israel. He has demanded that the city of MOntreal publicly observe Yom Kippur.

He also tried to ban the public celebration of Christmas in Montreal.

The new mayor will only be an interim mayor until there is an election. He will be nominated by city council rather than be elected.

This is the normal procedure for when a mayror resigns . The previous mayor, who was a French-Canadian man called Tremblay, had to resign because he was engulfed in a major corruption scandal. Basically people found out that city hall was under mafia control. I personally helped uncover the scandal a few years ago, but it is only now that it is fully coming out.

It seems there are no more Christians in Montreal city politics. We basically have a choice between a Jewish (Applebaum), a Muslim (Bergeron) and an Atheist (Harel).

You really don't know us. Applebaum would had been mayor if he was talking fluent french. But no, He lived all is life in Quebec and didn't learn the language. Sorry for him. Here we don't discriminate for religion or race but for language. Talk french or loose your best chance.
