No state income tax in my state. That's pretty damn sweet. They tax property and consumables more depending on the county though.

I live cheap and work as little overtime as possible and I about hit 50k per year. Less you work, stay in the lower tax brackets that way. 15% bracket goes to around $35k. Double that with a mate.


Hmm.. so getting married would save me $1500 in tax bills per year. Actually even more, since the standard deduction doubles. How interesting... of course finding the right one is much easier said than done in this culture.

On another note, I find it funny how many people buy homes so they can 'write off the mortgage interest' when if you do that, you can't take the standard deduction.

In NZ I pay 22% all up and get free healthcare for my entire family. I also get a strict 37hr work week and 6 weeks paid vacation a year. Life is good!!

you need a better tax guy,if you are paying that you should get it mostly all back or more if you have kids,I gross 50K a year as a contractor and after writte offs and child credits i dont pay any tax and get 5K back

It's all about perspective. Your as wealthy as you think you are. Making less than 50K is not an insult. It doesn't mean your less deficient than anyone else.

Stop placing emphasis on money. It helps. It's not the end all be all of all things.

OP, don't forget about sales tax, and property taxes. Not to mention what you pay into FICA & Medicare, which isn't technically a tax, but kind of really is.

Stop paying. Everyone should stop paying taxes if they had any courage.

This is how you do it. Talk to your employer and have him hire you as a private contractor. They should be willing to do it because it elliminates mountains of bullshit. Once you are being paid as a private contractor then it is your responsibility to pay the taxes. Then you simply don't pay.

I did this years ago. I have never heard a word about it. And if they come for me they best come equipt because I am in the right and they are wrong.
