I am sorry you have been attacked like this..... we are truly a nation divided... this discrepancy in the way we are viewing things will only get wider... much like the division between the North and South.... we may well be on our way to a civil war.

It is interesting and disturbing how quickly the attacks from those who are sympathetic to the liberal cause begins.... those who are loving and concerned for the "poor" are downright brutal to those who are not "poor".

Where I live we have a HUGE amount of Mexican illegals. It is not PC to call them Mexican, but they are from Mexico... why is that wrong? Anyway, every day in the grocery store, there are lots and lots of them, several children in tow, buying groceries with EBT (food stamps). They sign for their Rx's in the pharmacy. A lot of the foreclosure homes have been converted into Section 8 housing (a scam by the gov't to mainsream illegals) and distribute the non-English speaking children throughout the districts.

Education here is paid for by property taxes. Let's say there are 20 illegals living in one house that the landlord pays $750 a year in property taxes for. Let's say there are 10 children living in that home. That's $75 per child being paid for by the tax and the rest is left up to others to pay for. Then factor in free meals at school (2 per day, including in the summer) free medical treatment, free books, etc. you can see how top heavy that gets.

Here will come the attacks on me, now... people will say I am heartless and these people just want a better life. But I am not heartless and I understand that you can't bring up the lifestyle of millions of people on the backs of a few people and expect that there not be a backlash. Middle class jobs are vanishing as illegals take the jobs for less and still use the "services" made available to them.

It's the boiling frog socialism... little by little it has taken over until now that we are boiling and complaining, we are racist or evil, etc.

The irony is that we are NOT supporting anyone with this system since we are 16 trillion and counting in debt. It's a giant whirlpool and it's sucking more and more people in every day with job layoffs and people are tired and worn out from the struggle. Fiscal responsibility is called for in any business or family and I don't know why we should not expect it from our gov't. too. There are too many people in this lifeboat and we are all going to go down.

Minus FICA = -$145 / year
65% of rent, assuming $1000 a month for 8 people = $7800 / year
Food stamps = $950 x 12 = $11,400 / year
Cell phones (we have 2 with text & data @ $180/month) = $2160 / year
Internet/cable (based on mine @ $170/month) = $2040 / year
Tax refund = $12,000
TOTAL = $40,247 / year

There are other programs to help with utilities (heat), and probably other assistance that you don't don't know about (free health care, food banks, free school lunches, free school supplies, etc.), so we can assume another several thousand a year.

I share your indignation, OP, but at $40+K per year for 8 people, I would guess your standard of living is better. Keep on keepin' on.
