A few questions that I have are: would states that seceed have the requisite leadership to form a new "confederacy?" Would the people who ultimately become citizens of those pioneer states be willing to make sacrifices to protect their new way of life?

I don't believe as Texans we can secede. I think it is in the conditions that we can break the state up into a few parts but still must remain in the union.

Texas did not hand over any of its lands when it became part of the UNION,but during the CIVIL WAR it went under Reconstruction...Also during the 1933 BR the then Gov cut a deal as all govs did under that BR so where does that leave Texas standing rights ta leave the union?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 27392043

It's still in the state constitution.

States are individualized from the federal government, it's why we aren't called

"The United State of America" (<----no s)

Get it?

Just say what you and every non-Texan is really thinking.

"I'm scared...If Texas secedes, the United States will not have much else and I won't be able to drive my car, or heat my home in the winter."

To secede will not be a loss to Texas, but to the rest of the country.

Sam Houston would be rolling over in his grave right now.

He wanted Texas OUT of Mexico.

He wanted Texas IN the USA.

And the Civil War some 20 odd years later broke his heart.

Leave petty regionalism aside, all of you. A disintegration of our union will only make things worse. It's what THEY want.

I think the founding fathers would be rolling in their graves if they saw what is happening now in Washington DC

The USA Houston wanted Texas part of is not the USA we have today

We can't compare the present situation to 1860 or even 1960

Let the feral caucasoids live amongst themselves, Caucasoids have no place among a civilized nation of HUE-mans. Whites do nothing but destroy and pervert civilization. This is a good idead for them. Within the First Decade half ot their caucasoid population will be wiped out by diseasebecause of inferior caucasian genes. More of them will die than they can reproduce, caucasoids have an extremely low birth rate. Which is why White women opt for sex with black men. it gives their offspring better genes and a better chance for survival.

Let those feral animals live amongst their own kind.

Whites make the best neighbors, Whites behave far more civilized than any other people

Whites have High IQ which means white teachers are the best. And will do right by the kids

haha as a life long texan first and american second I see a lot of idiots who think we are backward hillbilly inbred retards. Every state has those folks and with the last election we saw where those folks live. Put race aside and religion aside and stand up for what you believe and quit spouting ignorant crap. Because If we decide to leave the UNITED STATES of AMERICA a whole bunch of other folks are going to be mad and upset because they don't have the balls or gumption to do so. We do. So to all the haters that are the true racists and have nothing intelligent to offer or say except put folks down.suicidecupofjoe

some of you would think that the money comes back to us because we are leaches. that is untrue and baseless. do you know how much money we put into the federal system in the first place and how that money is apportioned back to the state. if you can't understand the way this gov works and basic economics that were taught in high school maybe you ought to go back and finish your GED. Problem is, the Governor is nothing but another DC puppet.

Remember when Texas was trying to pass legislation to make TSA patdowns illegal? The votes were there and then, Perry stepped in and quashed it.

Texas is not a free republic. It's a nice idea, but it's gone the way of the dinosaurs.

Educate your self on Texas politics and law. The power of the state (Texas) rest's not with the governor (who is only a figure head) but with the Lt Governor and the State Legislature. This was done by design after the Civil War because the union was installing governors in the southern states that would do the bidding of Washington.
President Grant was supposedly livid when he found out Texas had amended it's Constitution (under the radar) that stripped the governor of most of his power ad placed it with the Lt Governor and the State Legislature.
