Quoting: Anonymous Coward 24061376 Officials in New York are reportedly eyeing a recently-closed prison as temporary housing for people displaced by superstorm Sandy and this week's nor'easter. The New York Post reports that state officials are considering the Arthur Kill Correctional Facility on Staten Island to feed and house as many as 900 victims with nowhere else to turn. Read more: [link to www.myfoxdc.com] It's a warm safe place to be during a brutal storm where people have no where else to go. FEMA abandoned them. It's a great idea and people want to make this into some kind of conspiracy. The real conspiracy would be: let the residents die of exposure and lack of food and water. I'm thankful that these people will have a warm safe place to go, whether it be a prison or not. |

Quoting: ..|O_o|.. 10463447 Political autism at it's best, when the system creates two classes of homeless people and refers to their internment as 'Freedom' You make an interresting point. Has any mention of the previous homeless people in ny been made? I would expect some to have died in the storm, but not all, so it's worth looking into. If they did "vanish", that would be a very bad sign. Gotta wonder what camp FEMA is up to these days, since their not housing or helping the people who've been displaced from the storm....? |

Surely if there were any of those mythical camps, now would be the time to unveil them, but not a camp to be found. The Jews thought they were being rescued from the ghettos and taken to resorts to receive free medical care and warm meals because they had no idea these death camps existed and were waiting on them with gas chambers. I highly doubt the Nazis would have shown their hand too soon by unveiling their camps to the locals during a winter storm. Once word gets out, you can't put that genie back in the bottle! But good luck with that. Just be sure you request the luxury passanger car when they tell you to board the train for the "resort". |

Surely if there were any of those mythical camps, now would be the time to unveil them, but not a camp to be found. Do you know how many people have been displaced, are homeless or have gone missing, not just during this crisis, but over the past years? Another poster made an interesting point about the thousands of homeless in NY, so where are they? Are they even being factored into all the statistics of displaced and casualties? Supposing, just hypothetically here, that FEMA camps do exist, but part of the plan is to keep these places secret, just a conspiracy, so that when they remove "undesirables" from the populace, no one will jump to conclusions or start investigating. If we don't know FEMA camps exist or where to look for them, then no one can go digging up the truth, can they? Do you recall that the vast majority of Germans had absolutely no idea about concentration camps existing during the NAZI regime? Think about it. There's enough evidence for suspicion, though perhaps not enough to prove our theories beyond a shadow of a doubt. That doesn't mean our theories are wrong. Keep an open mind, and don't jump to conclusions, one way or the other. I think it's worth looking into what has become of the homeless population of NY that existed prior to the storm. The answer to that question will point us in the right direction. |

Well, someone cared enough to say, "hey, we have an empty facility that would serve the greatest purpose right now even though it was first intended to house criminals, it will now feed, warm and clothe hundreds if not thousands (including children) of NYC citizens. They finally have an answer to survival and I'll be willing to bet that anyone posting a complaint about this on this thread isn't in Staten Island right now with no heat, food, or enough clothes to keep your children warm. I'll bet these citizens are happy and thankful to have a place to go right now, prison or not. Geez, people, these residents aren't going to be arrested for crying out loud or treated like criminals. Would you all feel better if they used an abandoned church instead...how about a Mosque...I bet that would really get you going! Well, I don't care how you feel, my concerns are with the suffering people in NY and surrounding areas. I'm glad that solutions are being worked out. It's going to be a long, cold winter in those parts and a lot of people lost their homes. Any solution for them that will keep them healthy albeit, alive, I truly welcome. GLP has a bug up their asses this week. Not everything is evil and diabolical. Ever hear of critical thinking? It should be a requirement on this website. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 26006802 United States 11/09/2012 01:37 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The solution here is not to let the people "rot" or "suffer" based on their presumed foolish political choices. Are we to follow in the footsteps of the oppressors of the past (shaking our heads)as we watch? If the rulers and administrators don't wish to care for the people any longer within their realm of rule, how about some groups outside of the state or locality offer up refuge and assitance. What I mean by this is, instead of relying on the FEMA or military or state government, surely there are friends and neighbors, neighboring states, and various peer groups who would step up and bring the people OUT of this current situation into their own homes, hotels, and etc. |
