It sounds like a practical plan and is the cheapest way to house people. Much cheaper than providing fema trailers which will be cold in the winter because they don't have installation.

Jails are designed to lock people up and control them. They have single beds in dorms or cells and have toilet pots in the middle of the room. How the hell does a family - or multiple families deal with this? It's an outrage to decency - imagine everyone in the room watching a girl shitting and farting in the middle of the room.

How the hell do they make this fit for the American culture?

gawd what a voice of reason

YES!! how can they even fathom putting families with kids in a prison...toilets with pee all over the floor

it is an outrage !!

prisons are for prisoners

why not a dorm room ; yes or a church(s) or gymnasiums

but prisons??

Why not? It's an unused building that can house 900 people.

It is an emergency. They improvise. I have seen the inside of a prison before (not because I've lived in one, but because I dated a guard, lol). They are like their own city on the inside. What you see on television is not always how it is in real life.

Yes, they are cells, but it's not like they're going to lock them up. Sheesh. Improvise. Put up curtains. Fill it with cots in the hallways. Sleep on the floor. Those people will be alive and fed and warm. That's the important thing. What would you want to do? Live in a tent outdoors with temperatures dropping in the 30's?

Use your head. This is what they can provide until something else is arranged. I'd be thrilled if I were in that situation.

Which culture is that? The most imprisoned population on the planet? Building prisons are make work projects. Filling them up for profit. That's your culture.

Well, if the jails are empty, I can think of no better place to house people until there homes are rebuilt. It's a good idea.

If New York is closing 7 prisons, maybe someone could buy them, renavate them and turn them into cheap housing for the poor.

They have large showers and bathroom. People wouldn't pee in the toilt. People would put blankets over the bars and everyone would leave the cell it one had to use the toilet

Who's the "someone"? It's a much better idea to let these folks go back to THEIR OWN HOUSES and clean them up, learn to renovate, and have something to be proud of. Let them do the work rather than just sitting in a jail like so many cattle. Let them learn new skills, and help out as necessary to make sure that they can afford it. Instead of the people being dead weight, they'd be taking care of themselves and increasing the value of their neighborhoods.

The problem with the current regime is that they want only insiders to do any work or gain any benefit. It's the opposite of "democracy".

And why are you assuming these people don't have jobs? And that their homes are habitable? How about they have someplace safe and warm to live WHILE they go to work AND start getting their house back in shape.

You're also assuming that there are enough construction supplies for everyone to get started work right away.

Ignore the snowstorm and bad weather too.

There's not even enough gas in that area right now nor is power restored everywhere. How does one operate the power tools? How do the backhoes and such get in to remove the mud and the sand? How do they pump out the water?

Even people who had home insurance that covers this - they still need a place to live right now.

Bottom line: People need somewhere to live to get through the winter and most of the spring.

As far as using the prison? I bet the person that thought of it has been watching The Walking Dead. ;o)

It's a warm safe place to be during a brutal storm where people have no where else to go. FEMA abandoned them.

It's a great idea and people want to make this into some kind of conspiracy.

The real conspiracy would be: let the residents die of exposure and lack of food and water.

I'm thankful that these people will have a warm safe place to go, whether it be a prison or not.

Yes!!! It's great:

Ye think that´s scary? Wait till it´s the real thing!

How much more obvious can it get? They aren´t even trying to hide it anymore. I bet even if they slapped ankle chains on these people- everyone else would say something stupid like, "It´s probably for there own protection".

Yep...Just like 30% of the sheeple will willingly submit to body cavity searches (strangers looking into and exploring the most private parts of their bodies) in order to fly.

I live on Staten Island..... they were transferred to other prisons citing budgetary reasons. My friend , who was a full time nurse there , was also relocated.
