I don't watch TV. I don't work for any government agencies. I don't get paid to deny anything. I'm not the one whose brainwashed here.

FEMA is a PLANNING agency. They make the plans and recommendations to the politicians and city governments. It is the FIRST RESPONDERS who are the people who go in, you know, first to help. They can only help carry out the plans to the extent that their officials will allow them the money to help. If it isn't there chances are good it's in the city coffers. (Saving it to spend on the Marathons? Probably not!)

It's a pity what has happened to those people. I suppose they could be some grateful that they aren't among the dead. They were given a whole week to prepare and/or leave the area. Parts of NYC are high and dry.

I think too many of us believe that science and money has conquered nature. That's what happens when you live in an environment of concrete and glass all your life.

I grew up in the heartland. We had snowstorms that lasted days - out of power for a week or more, snowdrifts higher than our doors and windows. No way possible to drive anywhere. And precious little help came from anywhere when it was all over with. We dug ourselves out. That was about it.

Don't remember anyone whining. We knew those storms could kill and were ready for them. Maybe there was some denial with the city folks that anything that bad could happen to them?

Forgot to mention that the people out there have voted strict guns laws. Now that they could use them to protect themselves and their property they are being told by their leaders that they will be prosecuted for doing so. We still need the Second Ammendment, if not to protect us from government then to protect us from those who like a lot of government.

I have been researching FEMA camps since long before Obama. This is bad if there is any truth to this article. It is how it was gonna start, so if it is starting than we are all in trouble soon. No good.

when i read the title of this post i thought to myself "this sounds very normal for NYC." really though, how is this any different than any other day in that rat infested, flea bag of a city? all the smart people moved out of there a long time ago. now all you have is hoods, college kids, hipsters, and homeless. homeless is also interchangeable with any of the other three. so really, WTF is different? oh that's right, they have to justify all that federal money going into their dumb fucking city which really means it is going into the coffers of the elite rich who most likely reside elsewhere.

Yeah, my town too. Most of them live here, so it's there town as well. I know of one who's had no electricity for 10 days. He still has to go to work.

They were told to the prison to get us to accept the FEMA camps. They will say that the camps were secretly built to hold terrorists and that we are lucky to have them.

Its not true. I live and work in ny area a by the beach and many stood, 60-70 people got on the buses few others left by personal transportation. Yes theres looting and fighting in the shelters, deaths as well but not from violence. Its not Katrina by any means, only so if the water didnt receed the next morning.

i live on long island...everything is almost back to normal,besides the gas lines which are getting shorter ..obviously people living right on the coastline are having a different experience but that's the minority

Here's whats going to happen.

The "martial law" zones declared in the NYC/NJ area will slowly expand outward. The rational will be because it is necesary to control "looters" and "smugglers" that are moving in and out of the area, making it impossible to "maintain order" necessary to "regain control".

Once the borders of those zones are expanded to a large enough size, then FEMA/DHS will claim that it is just materially impossible to manage the integrity of the border of the "martial law zones" to what is "needed", and they will just declare martial law for CONUS.

Watch, it'll happen.

My understanding is that these shelters were being shut down and the 'inmates' moved to hotel rooms. I think this is old news. Amazing how people complain about everything. If they don't like the circumstances, they can leave. It's normal for shelters to be run in a quasi-military (e.g., penal) fashion, as how else can you co-ordinate a large group of people in dire straits? Would it be better if everyone just came and went as they wanted to? Clearly not. You have to have order. Heat would have been nice too, but I'm sure the people running the shelters were trying. Sometimes you might consider being a bit more grateful and a lot less critical of people's efforts.
