From MY brother who is driving through it. It had a center and expanded is a quick flash, then total darkness, i assume it is then grid because cars still work and places with generators came on shortly after.

NC is a big place...you gotta be more specific.
Probably a transformer though...

Maine Power down too.. Not weather related.. Orr's island is dark. So is Bailey's island.

The islands are all dark. Five-mile rock lighthouse is looking like a beacon, lol!

The exact same thing happed in north central Kentucky on October 2nd of this year.

Transmission of electricity stopped over an area that encompassed three smaller cities: Radcliff, Elizabeth, and Rhineyville, KY.

The local news said it was due to a major transmission line between Elizabethtown and Radcliff experiencing a breaker failure located at a KU (KY Utilities) substation.

This is most strange it definitely does not sound like a transformer. More high tension supply lines or power generation equipment. The strange part is it seems to indicate that the power companies cannot get ample supplies redirected from the grid. Over how wide an area was the flash seen? If it was close enough to high tension transmission lines it could have fried them by the extreme energy released.

Hey that flash was seen off the coast Maine also Orr's island and Bailey's island. Half of Maine was in the dark.. Just heard Power has been restored to the Islands..

OBX is back up too that was strange, maybe testing the grid? To see how we will respond to a real attack?
