lol :D Technically you can, still, the occurrence of having the right angle between the moon and the sun is very rare and the plane should have to fly amazingly fast :D

Tele man just said Nasa is in Cairns to watch and see what they can learn.

Yes, I was reading that there are certain things about the local cosmos you can ONLY observe during a total eclipse. Like whether the corona is smooth and flat or plumped up and bumby (photosphere blocks out this detail). Also certain stars can only be observed at this time as well. Will be cool to see if they spot anything else out there, like the mythical planet Vulcan, lol.

Cloud cover at the moment, about 40 minutes til totality.

You would think they would have a plane above the cloud cover to catch this relatively rare event.

I'm watching it on the today show. They are in cairns but cant see anything for the cloud, but they are linked in to the nasa gear so it a good picture.

Ahhh. Of course. A plane. I was thinking their scopes must be able to see through the cloud. lol

It is very cloudy here, but I looking with welding thing. Very cool.
Its coming from the bottom to cover it. Not like in cairns was coming over the top.

That was a once in a lifetime event, loved the 'diamond ring' effect!!!! Can't wait to see NASA'a images too
