Missouri voted no on health exchanges that would be used to implement Obamacare. Which means the governor cannot act on his own without another popular vote.

So who has a better idea? The status quo isn't working. Can we come up with something better?
As a small business owner (currently 41 employees) I can tell you that the current system is unsustainable and is killing our economy. As soon as I was able to afford to I paid for 100% of my employees insurance. I felt it was the right thing to do. I got no accolades for it, most employees just took it for granted. Until I couldn't afford the astrofuckingnomical premiums any longer and had to cut it to 80%/20%. Man did I hear about it then. Then I had to cut to 70/30. Oh boy. Currently it is 50/50 and at that my insurance premiums are teetering on exceeding my gross salary. That is all fucking money that is going straight to the insurance company instead of being put back into the real world economy. So the writing is on the wall. Eventually I'm not going to be able to afford insurance for my employees at all. So theres 41 good hardworking people and there spouses and children with no insurance at fucking all. Should they be denied medical care? Hell man I'm going to keep on keepin on on our collective behalf because I believe in myself, my employees, and yea my country. So again, maybe some of you folks that are smarter than me can come up with a viable alternative? But for now the only thing I have even seen thrown out there is Obamacare. If my insurance premiums start going down I'll let you know. If not, I'll let you know that too. But honestly from my point of view what we have been doing is not working. Fuck, I wish I would have bought into the insurance industry instead of sheetmetal fab.

What mandate? You mean the one that says we're keeping you because we are a bunch of sheep? Or his mandate to cut spending?

More people likely voted against him than for him (don't forget third party votes). Even if we JUST look at his little lead, it was pretty close. Hardly a mandate.

isn't that silly in a state with democrat majority?

floridas message was clear in the way it voted, this message is from the angry old white

male club.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 27409829

you wish

Florida results:
49.9% D
49.2% R

There is no democrat "majority", and the numbers were this close in nearly all the battleground states

stop believing the BS about a mandate the media keeps repeating...

...Obama won by a squeaker in most states he carried, less than 1-2% in most of the ones I watched

So don't those other 50% of the people have rights too?
 Quoting: IssueX

While you are right about the Florida results for President, you are wrong about the other swing states. Here are the most recent results from the other nine "swing states" (third party candidates not included in the totals):

New Hampshire: Obama 52.2%, Romney 46.4%
Virginia: 50.8%, Romney 47.8%
North Carolina: Romney 50.6, Obama 48.4%
*Ohio: Obama 50.1, Romney 48.2%
Wisconsin: Obama 52.8%, Romney 46.1%
Minnesota: Obama 52.8, Romney 45.1%
Iowa: Obama 52.1, Romney 46.5
Colorado: Obama 52.1, Romney 46.5
Nevada: Obama 52.3, Romney 45.7

*Counting of provisional ballots, that majority of which are in Democratic precincts, won't be counted by state law until November 17th.

Additionally, the most recent nation-wide vote count for President is
Obama 61,514,370 50.5%
Romney 58,391,041 47.9%

While these totals are not complete and official because votes are still being counted, they are fairly close to the official results from 2004:

Bush 62,040,610 50.7%.
Kerry 59,028,444 47.3%

One more data set from Florida. The proposed amendment to the state constitution to outlaw health insurance mandates is losing 51.48%/48.52%.

Of course, those that voted for Romney still have rights, just as I still had rights after Bush, Bush, and Reagan won. What I didn't have was the "right" to demand that my desires for government policy had to be followed and that the Republicans had to bow to my wishes.

Welcome to the wonderful system of government that the framers envisioned. I love America. Do you?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 26157260

I love the US as envisioned...and those are NOT mandate numbers

As the other post noted, most within 2% and often closer

Mandate is 40-60% of higher

That is not a clear "majority" as the original poster claimed. Those are numbers which demand compromise not a heavy hand
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 24081810

I really don't wish to belabor a point here, but can you read? The only "swing state" that is "within 2%" is Ohio, where the provisional votes have not been counted yet. North Carolina, which is the only "swing" state that went for Romney, is 2.1%. Secondly, if "40-60%" or higher is the definition of mandate, then only Washington, Harding, FDR, Johnson, and Nixon ever had a mandate. 2.6% in the popular vote is not a "squeaker," although it is a close election. Elections like 1960, 1968, and 2000 are squeakers, although many will argue about 2000.

Obama does not have an unlimited mandate because the Republicans still control the House, although the Democrats actually won the total popular vote for the House nationwide. I agree that this fact demands compromise. Maybe the Republicans should think about what compromise means, which is usually not getting everything you want, especially when they only control one house of Congress, the Democrats increased their lead in the Senate, and the Republicans do not control the Executive branch.

How would he be violating the Federal law? There is something called the 10th amendment for one. Two, the supremacy clause won't be enough to force any state to go ahead with such a horrific idea. States would be injured parties and after a while.. if the Federal Government can't leave its hands off.. the union would be void.

You're still going to be paying the same rate under Obamalamadingdong care. I don't even get your argument. The only difference is that if you decide to drop paying medical all together, you'll pay a fine and your employees will be forced at gun point to buy insurance.

You honestly think if you don't provide medical then somehow your employees are being denied medical care? They can purchase blue cross anytime they want.

Ridiculous argument from you. You sure you own a company? Honesty you don't seem that smart...

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 26157260

Using election results? They don't mean a hill of benas when they can be easily fixed, especially in the age of electronic voting machines that can record a vote for a candidate that they did not vote for. I saw a cell video of this happening to someone voting for Obama and it recording a vote for Romney, but I actually know some one in Ohio that was trying to vote Romney and the machine kept coming up Obama (it can go both ways so election fraud is not the debate here).

The issue at hand is certainly the health care law, and at this point, the only way out is the states to stand up to the federal government. And while Wonkish or whatever his name is wants to try the to say it was constitutional, the 10th Admendmant say otherwise.

The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people

The power to force commerence or even to provide health care are not provided to the US government. It is a state problem, which why I always felt Romney care was a good idea, and Obamacare not a good one. The fact is, the federal government is very limited in it's power, and forcing commerce is not one of them. And while it was called a tax, the legality of such a tax could and should be easily questioned, as the right to taxation is also limited.

The bottom line is our individual states, must stand up for the consituition and stand up to an overbearing Federal Government. The reason we won't see that though is the Feds oontrol money filtered to the states, and they will bow to that money. That's how we wind up with seatbelt laws, Governor Christie sucking Obama's dick, and Obamacare. If our state governments will not take control, it is our duty to remove them, and more appropriately, the federal government through eleciton (which won't work because of fraud) or force (why we have arms protected by the 2nd Amendmant).

In a final word, the idea of the SCOTUS was a great idea in the beginning, it is a failure now. Judges have been allowed to create laws from the bench (Roe v Wade) for far to long, and adhere to partisan politics that was not the original design. Our system is broken, and arguing for it in any manor is a dishonoring your country. I don't have all the answers, and I don't know if it is fixable. I do now we are in bad shape, and we need leaders to step up and challenge the status quo. If Rick Scott is it, then GO RICK!.

Hey, I elect to pay healthcare through the one provided by my employer as a benifit. I should have the right to abstain and retain the liabilty myself, and in truth, they should have the right to abstain to provide it. In a free market, the smart ones worked for the ones who offered.

The poor, theirs were already covered, though not through an insurance company collecting unnecessary premiums. Before the law, and likely after, people under a certain income level scould get their costs waived, so....what was this bill really about. Oh yeah, money for large corporations and in a lesser extent, violations of personal freedoms. And if it was really so great, why aren't Obummer and his cronies in congress on the same lousy plan.

trinity I live in vancouver 6 months ago I blacked out while I was cutting my lawn call 911 they send an ambulance - zero dollars -1 hour wait and visit with doctor at emergency - zero dollars - an EKG 6 days later - zero dollars - ct scan 3 days after that - zero dollars - diagnosis: bad day - cost zero dollars canadian healcare = priceless . not sure who has been filling your head with shit but you dont seem to know about canadian healthcare . yes sometimes people have to wait longer or alot longer than I did but they always have the option to pay cash elsewhere like across the line.

Yeah, that is why there are some canadians that carry inusrance in the U.S. They do it when they need immediate procedures that would kill them if they had to wait in Canada. The funny thing is, I know this because My wife did a report on it long before Obamacare was an issue for nursing school. We laughed about it. We never thought that kind of system would be in place here. The jokes on us I guess.

And I am sure for basic stuff it is great, but when you are 80 years old and want a transplant....Whoa! It's a whole new ball game.

Re: Florida to Obama on Obamacare : STICK IT UP YOUR ASS!

If you only have 41 employees you shouldn't be offering insurance. Also, if you cannot pay insurance for those 41 you most likely are not doing well and should cut your losses short buddy. Successful business = Gross profits > Expenses. DUH
You may fool me once. But twice is unlikely
