So who has a better idea? The status quo isn't working. Can we come up with something better?
As a small business owner (currently 41 employees) I can tell you that the current system is unsustainable and is killing our economy. As soon as I was able to afford to I paid for 100% of my employees insurance. I felt it was the right thing to do. I got no accolades for it, most employees just took it for granted. Until I couldn't afford the astrofuckingnomical premiums any longer and had to cut it to 80%/20%. Man did I hear about it then. Then I had to cut to 70/30. Oh boy. Currently it is 50/50 and at that my insurance premiums are teetering on exceeding my gross salary. That is all fucking money that is going straight to the insurance company instead of being put back into the real world economy. So the writing is on the wall. Eventually I'm not going to be able to afford insurance for my employees at all. So theres 41 good hardworking people and there spouses and children with no insurance at fucking all. Should they be denied medical care? Hell man I'm going to keep on keepin on on our collective behalf because I believe in myself, my employees, and yea my country. So again, maybe some of you folks that are smarter than me can come up with a viable alternative? But for now the only thing I have even seen thrown out there is Obamacare. If my insurance premiums start going down I'll let you know. If not, I'll let you know that too. But honestly from my point of view what we have been doing is not working. Fuck, I wish I would have bought into the insurance industry instead of sheetmetal fab.
