Denver-area officer mistakenly shot, killed by fellow officer

A Denver-area police officer was fatally shot by a colleague who mistook him for an armed assailant early Friday, authorities said.

James Davies, a 35-year-old police officer in Lakewood, Colorado, was shot outside a house that he and fellow Lakewood officers – including the firing officer – were checking after hearing shots fired there, police spokesman Steve Davis said.

The firing officer, whom police haven’t identified, thought Davies was an armed threat in the dark of night, the spokesman said.

They shouldn't be creeping around at night like that. And now the courts have ruled it's okay for the police to place secret hidden surveillance cameras on your property. So they will be creeping around even more...

Its A very unfortunate and a tradgedy for all involved. I was a cop and I can tell you that more than once I had my weapon sighted for someone who turned out to be a cop instead of a criminal. When cops are trained to shoot first its a scarey thing. Cops just like criminals are no longer old school bad asses. When I started policing in 1989 it was far more acceptable to fist fight than to pull a gun on an unarmed suspect. Now a days cops with the help of video games and training to effect the end desired by TPTB prefer to shoot an unknown threat rather than man up and fight rather than risk an ass whipping themselves.

Just because cops are going to get their ass whipped doesnt mean they can shoot unarmed citizens.

When I was trained it was taught to shoot as a last resort and now a days its taught as a better them than you mentality instead of true justice and law enforcement.I have been shot at by criminals too yet I never pulled the trigger and cops now shoot first and ask questions later.
