No country allowed to trade with Texas.

Wrong.

Texas can be energy independent, can conduct international trade, and can feed and clothe its people.

The state has a thriving oil and gas industry.

It has its own seaports and, thus, conducts international trade.

Texas has its own fishing industry.

It is ranked #1 among the states for total livestock and livestock product receipts.

Texas has the largest number of beef cattle of any state in the U.S.

Texas raises more sheep and produces more mohair from angora goats than any other state. Lambs and turkeys are also raised commercially in Texas.

Other important agricultural livestock/products include chickens, dairy products, eggs, and hogs.

Texas also raises watermelons, grapefruit, cantalopes, onions, pototoes, pecans, mushrooms, sorghum (grain), cane sugar, and it is the number one producer of cabbage.

Along with Arkansas, california, and Louisiana, Texas helps produce 90% of the U.S. rice crop.

Cotton is Texas' most lucrative crop and it makes up 9% of its agricultural production.

Texas is the second-largest state by land area (266,874 square miles) and at 25 million citizens it ranks second only to California in population.

Texas has over 2 million acres of huntable land (public and private) and is a top destination for hunting white-tailed deer.

Houston, TX is a major international business, financial, and banking center.

So...trust me, if Texans decide to secede, they will come out on top of that deal and will never look back.
 Quoting: Biochemky

this seems a fair analysis. but i don't think texas has a secessionist movement with a chance of succeeding . yet.

Texas State tax collections soar, setting up chance for record budget surplus

By Kate Alexander

Texas could be heading toward a record state budget surplus just two years after facing a historic deficit.

Texas Comptroller Susan Combs reported Wednesday that total tax collections for the 2012 budget year, which ended Aug. 31, were $3.7 billion higher than had been estimated in December.

That total amounts to 13 percent more than the $40.3 billion in tax revenue that Combs had projected would come in during the first half of the state's two-year budget cycle and was even higher than the estimates lawmakers used to write the 2012-13 budget in May.

Soaring oil and gas production in West Texas and the Eagle Ford Shale in South Texas are major drivers of the better-than-expected revenue collections.

The production taxes for oil and natural gas together came in about $1 billion, or 39 percent, higher than projected, and the industry also contributed heavily to strong sales tax collections, which were up 12.6 percent from the previous year.

I guess you missed the "Economist" magazine articles comparing California to Texas, where they show on the cover California as a fat aging beach boy, and Texas, all buff, whizzing past on a jet ski

awesome picture...you can see it here

The Economist: AMERICA'S FUTURE
Texas Vs California:

[link to www.economist.com]

...Chief Executive magazine, to take just one example, has ranked California the very worst state to do business in for each of four years....

By contrast, Texas was the best state in that poll. It has coped well with the recession, with an unemployment rate two points below the national average and one of the lowest rates of housing repossession. In part this is because Texan banks, hard hit in the last property bust, did not overexpand this time. But as our special report this week explains,

Texas also clearly offers a different model, based on small government. It has no state capital-gains or income tax, and a business-friendly and immigrant-tolerant attitude. It is home to more Fortune 500 companies than any other state—64 compared with California's 51 and New York's 56. And as happens to fashionable places, some erstwhile weaknesses now seem strengths (flat, ugly countryside makes it easier for Dallas-Fort Worth to expand than mountain-and-sea-locked LA), while old conservative stereotypes are being questioned: two leading contenders to be Houston's next mayor are a black man and a white lesbian. Texas also gets on better with Mexico than California does.

THE ECONOMIST: Lone Star rising
Thanks to low taxes and light regulation, Texas is booming....

[link to www.economist.com]

Texas now hosts more Fortune 500 companies than any other American state. They include AT&T, Dell and Texas Instruments; oil giants such as Exxon Mobil, ConocoPhillips and Valero; American, Continental and Southwest Airlines; Fluor, a huge construction firm (recently lured from California); J.C. Penney; Halliburton; and 52 others.

Texas claims to have been responsible for 70% of all the net new jobs created last year in America's 50 states, though since only a few states created any jobs at all that is not quite as astonishing as it sounds.

Re: Texas GOP official : Texas should secede from the maggots who elected Obama!
No....It's not nonsense. Stop living in make believe land dictated to you by Fox News.

30% of the food in the United States comes from California.

I don't have cable, your half-baked witticisms aside. California is NOT the only state in the union capable of going import free. It's nonsensical and obtuse of you to suggest otherwise.

Texas cannot feed itself.

You have cattle. But you don't have enough farmland to create enough grain to feed it all.

99% of the Farmland in California is irrigated. Meaning the plants still get watered even if it doesn't rain.

So if you have a drought you're fucked. California has the infrastructure to go all out. Texas doesn't.

California is also the ONLY STATE that doesn't have a trade deficit with other nations. Meaning it exports more to foreign countries than it imports. It exports more to other states than it imports. If California were to leave the Union it's economy would explode.

Keep telling me I'm wrong.

You are.

The Colorado River (from overuse) and the aquifers that feed California are drying up. That state has trouble supplying enough water to farmers already in it's current state.

Also...look up Newlands Reclamation Act.

Texas just has California beat all the way around...

What you have China wares and silicon.

Thanks.

That was a mighty good rant!

I had to laugh though when Olbermann said that it would cost the Republic of Texas quite alot to get their own FBI, CIA, FEMA, CDC, EPA, DHS, welfare system, social security system, etc., etc., and so on, well you get the point.

No, Mr. Olbermann, those agencies and the nanny state infrastructure would be alot of the reason why Texas seceded in the first place!

GLP should show what State each poster is from, not which country.

I would be curious to see where the anti-texas clowns are posting from.

Me, Im a fan of Texas. Only State that has the balls to even talk secession.

If Texas became a country I would apply for Immigration right away!
