Anonymous Coward User ID: 815535 United States 11/09/2012 10:03 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Microsoft to drop Messenger, switch to Skype Quoting: Anonymous Coward 27375870 Microsoft is scrapping its instant-messaging program and forcing most users to switch to Skype. Maintaining Windows Live Messenger made less sense after Microsoft Corp. bought Skype for $8.5 billion last year. A new version of Skype released a few weeks ago allows users to sign in with a Microsoft account. By merging the two services, people won't have to maintain two separate contact lists. Microsoft says much has changed in how people communicate. There's more use of text messaging and social networking, for instance. Microsoft said in Tuesday's announcement that Messenger users who switch to Skype will get benefits such as the ability to call landline and mobile phones and better support on mobile devices. Except for mainland China, Messenger will be discontinued worldwide after the first quarter of 2013. Skype was great until it was again gobbled up by the windows monster and features that once "free" such as screen sharing on windows at least, became chargeable services. I expect over the next few months that skype will morph into some hideous remnant of its former self full of spam and ad-ware and people will be paying just to get rid of the ever increasing animated commercial banners that will be taking up half of the video frame. At least for now they cannot get their greedy meddling hands on facetime. |

Oh wait........nevermind. No one is perfect. A babe before walking will first stumble and fall many times but NEVER gives up until he succeeds. Always remember, ultimately, to never follow any person's belief. Your relationship with God is between you and God. If nothing else, remember this: religion = subservience, control and conformity, the same template as EVERY government "Most believers would kill truth if truth threatened their religion." L. K. Washburn "This crime called blasphemy was invented by priests for the purpose of defending doctrines not able to take care of themselves." Robert Ingersoll "If anyone wants to know how God feels, it's a warm light as if the sun is poking through dark clouds and lifting your spirits with pure joy." |

Take a look at how many ports it opens, how your computer is used as a node and where your traffic is routed through. It's not secure in the least. Look forward to all the Skype service packs. Also I don't know about anyone else, but I personally miss using Windows XP. Fuck Win8 down to hell. Win7 is usable and so was Vista but XP will forever be my favorite OS. People can NOT leave well enough alone, and their egos are too large to allow side-by-side applications, so people can vote with their usage. If there was an option "old Hotmail" or "old Google", the bloated piles of shit they have designed would go down the drain INSTANTLY, along with the designers and bean counters egos. |
