I was just standing outside star gazing. Looking at orion and a bright star just above it. Then a bright star to the south west of orion caught my attention. Was getting very bright then slowly faded and poof now its gone and right after that a shooting star went across the sky. Very nice to see. Anyone know what star would have been southwest of orion and extremely bright and disappear?
Quoting: Anonymous Coward 25674222 one thing it could have been was a "iridium flare"....caused by sunlight reflecting off a Motorola Iridium satellite....used for sat phone communication .....look them up and read about them here: www.heavensabove.com it has a place where you put in your zipcode and it will tell you all the neat things you can see in the sky over your location....I use it to see when the ISS is overhead, if you have never seen the space station fly over, you are in for a treat
