You eat the seeds, soaked or not. I looked but can't find any here, I must have thrown them out as they were old but my new order should arrive Tuesday. $12.33 for a pound inc. shipping on Amazon Prime!

I have recently bought some and have been adding just a teaspoon to my protein/ green drink I have in the morning. Can't really say I see any results from them but I know they are healthy and will continue to take them. I was wondering though if you take more per day, might they cause constipation due to the way they thicken up?

Wouldn't they need a tropical climate to reach maturity? I saw that video and I thought it would be so neat to grow them but dunno if I could in PA? They were considered a wonder food by the Aztecs, would definitely be good prepper food.

I am a clinical herbalist. In my practice, Chia is my NUMBER ONE recommendation for general health and wellness. The OP got most of the benefits; the only thing I could really add is the ability of the particular mucilages to repair Essential Fatty Acid absorption sites in the end of the gut. I have seen IBS turn completely around in six weeks!

There is one caveat: some folks, from certain drugs (opiates, some heart drugs, etc.), tend to pass the seed whole in their stool. When I have seen this, especially in folks with IBS, I replace Chia with Yellow Dock tincture for six or eight weeks before giving Chia another try.

Remember also, herbs are not drugs. If chronic illness is the problem, the rule of thumb is to allow three months for every year of chronic illness. Usually, change is effected in less time, but real healing needs time. For most chronic diseases, many years were required to get sick; years may be needed to completely heal the damage. Often, though, especially with Chia, folks begin to feel better within four to six weeks.

I am so happy to see this thread! Congrats to Luis for finding all this. I had never heard of it till I was in herb school!

I drink chia seeds poured into one of those little drinkable yogurts every couple of days. I stopped eating wheat products over the summer and began eating more fresh fruits and veggies. However, no matter the amount of fiber in my diet I seemed to be clogged up. The chia seeds took care of that.

Re: CHIA SEEDS!!! ANY ONE TRY IT? PLEASE SHARE YOUR EXPERIENCES...
I have heard of Moringa. For the most part, however, and with very few exceptions, I try to use plants from my own bioregion (the Mountain and Desert West of the US).

Some exceptions are:
Maca, an Adaptogen from South America,
Ginseng, because North American ginseng is nearly extinct,
Dong Quai, because I don't know how to cure our local Angelicas,
Wild Yam, (from the forests of NE US), because local alternatives are heavily stressed,
etc.

Superfoods like Moringa are amazing, but one thing I have found is that one's ethnicity can make a big difference in the efficacy of a medicinal plant. For instance, Inmortal, a desert Milkweed, was used by the New Mexico Spanish for bleeding after giving birth. It works well for latina women, but does nothing, and can have scary cardiac side effects, for blonde, blue-eyed women. There are many examples from this area as well. I am sure there aree examples from other places, too. For this reason, I am very careful about the many fad plants being introduced as miracle cures (not saying Moringa is a fad). Each person's individual constitution can change what does and doesn't work as well. What can cure one person's cancer may make another's worse. This is why seeing an herbalist for major problems, instead of just googling something, is so important. Besides, most herbalists are cheaper than their MD counterparts. I have sometimes wound up treating problems that really should have been shown to a doc because the client could not afford medical treatment.

My usual advice is this, try a few simple things for your problem. Give it enoigh time to work. If you can, get diagnosed by a doc. If simple things don't help in one or two months, find a local herbalist for help. If they are honest, and the problem is beyond what herbs can do, they will tell you so.

This is what they do! Often the absorption sites for Omega EFAs get damaged by overabundance of triglycerides. Triglycerides have a greater binding affinity than the Omegas for these sites. This means that you can be taking a very expensive supplement and get NO benefit because it is not absorbed. Reduce triglycerides (read, fried stuff) and take Chia!
