I am a clinical herbalist. In my practice, Chia is my NUMBER ONE recommendation for general health and wellness. The OP got most of the benefits; the only thing I could really add is the ability of the particular mucilages to repair Essential Fatty Acid absorption sites in the end of the gut. I have seen IBS turn completely around in six weeks!

There is one caveat: some folks, from certain drugs (opiates, some heart drugs, etc.), tend to pass the seed whole in their stool. When I have seen this, especially in folks with IBS, I replace Chia with Yellow Dock tincture for six or eight weeks before giving Chia another try.

Remember also, herbs are not drugs. If chronic illness is the problem, the rule of thumb is to allow three months for every year of chronic illness. Usually, change is effected in less time, but real healing needs time. For most chronic diseases, many years were required to get sick; years may be needed to completely heal the damage. Often, though, especially with Chia, folks begin to feel better within four to six weeks.

I am so happy to see this thread! Congrats to Luis for finding all this. I had never heard of it till I was in herb school!
