Re: List of companies reducing employee's hours due to Obamacare...
I've had over $200,000 worth of back surgeries. I realized before those operations that it was important to get an education and find a job that may not pay as much as other jobs but would allow me to work my way up. I started as a temp and worked 3.5 yrs w/o the pay the other people I worked with made and absolutely zero benefits.

I could have said this is unfair and quit but I looked at it as an opportunity to show them that I could bring value to the company, keep my mouth shut about thinking I deserved the same treatment as others who had been there for much longer and had proven themselves already. It was up to me to prove myself.

I would love for everyone to have what they need. There is a way to do that but it's not by expecting someone else to provide it

I certainly respect your work ethic, and am sorry for your health troubles. My opinion, and its only an opinion, is that there are only so many situations out there to prove yourself in, and many hardworking intelligent people don't get the chance they need. I know that you can't stop trying and its up to you to make your own chances but there are allot of people dammed by circumstance that just get eaten up by the dog eat dog mentality. I work in a peicework field (planting trees) and every day its up to you to make your money. There is also a quality aspect to the job 92.5% for full payment 88% is non payment, but this quality standard is averaged across the whole crew. Faster guys plant more, with often lower quality but they're there "to make money not friends". The slower guys/gils end up planting better quality, making less money and carrying the highballers. Quite often the companies foster this situation because faster planters make them the most money. Tough situation to solve and I think this example applies across the workforce. Assholes get ahead. (I am in no way implying you are one sir.)

I admire your attention to detail and quality.

Maybe you need to start your own business.

I have children now who need me around more than tree planting affords, I am trying to phase it out but the $250 to $300 a daymakes it a financial reality right now. I am an electrical apprentice, in a few years I will be able to be a contractor. I really should have educated myself better earlier in life, your statements are quite true in that respect.

If businesses have to cut back because of changes in the economic environment, the correct response is not to boycott them.

If the economic change is due to a political action -- e.g., enacting Obamacare -- then people who are affected by job loss or hours reduction (maybe one or two of you 'boycotters') would do well just to hear the cause for the businesses' concern, instead of reacting hostilely and antagonistically.

So, take off your protest-the-man hat and put on your thinking hat.

Horrible..

Sheep don't realize how terrible Obamacare really is!
With the economy in shit shape and job rates bad, Obamacare will break the final straw the economy is barely holding onto.

Just look at the facts...

In order for company's to avoid paying more money (due to Obamacare) they will cut hours and perhaps even cut wages.
If a company doesn't take that route they'll have to raise prices to the consumers to make up the difference.
Which would be mean prices the middle class cannot afford and would most definitely slower economic growth.

It's a lose lose situation for the economy.

I'm thinking it's important to actually get a list together, if we can - to really try to show what an effect this is going to have!!

My 'puter is on the slow side today, tho. And I haven't hit on the best "keyword" combo for my search yet.

But here's another:

I'm going to make sure to frequent these companies with my business because anything less than that will hurt those who work there.

If you are looking for something to boycott, call your county clerk and have them remove your name from any future voting rolls. Boycott the government by withdrawing your consent.

Some clues....for the clueless. hi

The Top 25 Health Insurance Companies

[link to health.usnews.com]
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 7702124

Of those 25, 7 are BCBS. Cigna and Metropolitan, they are pretty big, should be added to the 5 above. That is seven well known companies that provide health insurance. Do you think their prices are much different? Your charges increase steeply according to your height and weight and whether or not you smoke and whether you are a female of childbearing years. Yes, believe me, they know their statistics to be assured that they will make a profit. Where they can't make a profit, or people can't afford to pay, they have shifted the burden to the government. They make profit when healthy people pay into the system. The young healthy and poor cannot pay for Health Insurance.

The way I look at it is, the government is trying to shift the burden of healthcare from it to your employer. Why wouldn't your employer want you to be healthy? Maybe it is more important to him that he get a hugh raise every year?

screw Jimmy Johns, I worked at one with a bunch of republican fanboys who were all about John McCain back in 08, I told them they were insane and so was their candidate, so they moved me to grave yard shift. That was when I worked all night while while they slept in their comfy beds that their mommy and daddies provided for their lavish lifestyles. All the Republicans care about is money, not the greater good. Man
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1446031

Yeah, "man."

Democrats are the biggest capitalists around...it is just their idea of "business" is to subvert and re-purpose the entire government, for the benefit of democrats themselves. In other words, the biggest business and highest-profit opportunity in the country, from their perspective, is to misuse and bleed money out of the federal government and its taxpayers -- us.

So, your last statement is wrong. "Man."

Put me on your list. I own two restaurants and a bar.

Anyone working or claiming to work over 29 hours...gets fired immediately and barred from the properties.

If they want to unionize, I will lock them out and hire temps. If that doesn't work, everyone gets fired and I will close all 3 places & finally get a break from working 70+ hours a week.
Really?really?
