Is it a bad time to pursue a petroleum engineering degree?

Even if there were a declaration tomorrow, the entire US infrastructure is based upon petroleum products - including the transportation to provide them.
We will need petroleum engineers for a very long time - your concern might be appropriate for your children, or even grandchildren; but, I'm confident that you're still in demand.

I say this, even though I majored in business administration...

if you're smart enough go for it. you could get a job anywhere in the houston area starting over 100k.

My nephew just graduated from a school in Butte Montana. I believe it was in the field you are asking about. From what I understand it is the best school in the world for this career. I don't know that for positive, only what my SIL said.

Anyway, this school has something like a 98% placement after graduation. He had his choice of jobs in Texas, North Dakota and for the life of me I can't remember the 3rd place. I do know it was somewhere I wouldn't care to go, which is probably why I don't remember.

They live in MT, I live on the east coast. That's why I don't know the particulars, plus we ain't really close as a family.

His mother the said starting salary was in the vicinity of $100,000 a year to start.
