If Texas did secede and was allowed to go, I would take my education and work ethic and move there. I'm leaving the People's Socialist State of Illinois anyway before it collapses.

The people of America have been raped by our government and we shouldn't and will not stand for it anymore. I would never enjoy being raped by a person, so I sure as hell didn't enjoy being raped by my government. Oblabla might like taking up the butt, But I DON'T!!

Go ahead and withdraw. When the Navy blocks your access to the GOM and starts pumping all the gulf oil to LA, you'll be really poor really quickly.
 Quoting: MacElroy

Are you aware of the LOOP? Its an offshore facility that has its own privatized security. Are you also aware that the oil companies are businesses.. for the most part HQ'd in Houston, TX.. Besides.. Louisiana already has their own petition.. can you imagine the Port of Houston and Port Fourchon acting together under one sovereign entity?

Texas and Louisiana can both survive independently but why not form a "coalition" or an "alliance" ... talk about mutually beneficial..

and now Alaska, and Missouri want to secede.

There is no such thing as a "legitimate rape" RAPE by definition is a horrible thing, no matter how or to whom it is done.

So what happens if they do get 25,000 sigs?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1376927

Nothing. No one in power actually cares about the petitions. They exist to make one feel as though he or she has any say in policy making.

A new petition asks: “Actually take these petitions seriously instead of just using them as an excuse to pretend you are listening.”

The arguments for the right of secession are unequivocal. There is the constitutional right based on the Compact Theory, and the revolutionary right based on the idea that a free people have the right to change their government anytime they see fit. The Compact Theory views the Constitution as a legal agreement between the states - a compact - and if any one state violates the compact, then the entire agreement becomes null and void. Northern states unquestionably violated the Constitution on a number of grounds including unconstitutional Personal Liberty Laws on their books, as well as by deliberately harboring fugitives from justice by protecting the sons of John Brown who were wanted by Virginia for murder at Harpers Ferry. Northern states also made a mockery of the Constitution's Preamble, which states clearly that the Constitution was established to "insure domestic Tranquility" and "promote the general Welfare." Certain prominent Northern leaders with the acquiescence of states like Massachusetts were utterly at war with the South and doing everything they could to destroy the domestic tranquility of Southern states by encouraging slaves to murder white people, poison wells, destroy property and commit other acts of rapine. John Brown himself had been encouraged and financed in the North.

Re: Texas Petition to Withdraw from the union
There is a legal and constitutional process for states to split, merge, join, and leave.

This process requires the state(s) in question have their legislature(s) by vote approve the change proposal by a supermajority of 66%. Once approved by the state(s) it must then be sent to federal legilarure and be approved by both houses again by the same supermajority.

Then and only then can the change take place. The same process does not apply to dependant territories nor does it apply to protectorates.

Don't you find it ironic that many of the same people who whined about obama's reelection being the "death of America" are the same people who want to sign these petitions and kick-start the process?
Wouldn't it be great to heal the world, with only a song?

Don't matter at this time , its a form of protest.

It needs thousands of votes.

The legalities are bs . Just like the ones of the king during the u.s revolution.

If the media outlets had balls they would post the petitions as a form of protest.

Like aka the drudge report.

Otherwise none of them really want to rock the boat.
