however much pain it would cause me in the short term...I'd go for the 1 in 2 chance in 4 years...those are pretty good odds.

$14,000 is the new $100 and will not accomplish crap in the long run.

take the 2 mil it will be worth a 1/4 as much in 4 years but that still makes it $500k

However, 14,000 now would buy lots of food and water for storage, silver, which might be a better investment and possibly even worth more than the 2 mill in the near future.

I never thought of it this way....Hmmm.

I would accept the 14 g's today and pay off my debts then invest the rest and hope that after 4 years I could go someway to reducing the potentiality of my loss.

So the type of people who read and post to the question may be more of the now or more of the later type.

What does it say about the choice--is one conservative, the other, a risk taker?

What is the psychology?

How do I feel about my present circumstances?

How do I feel about my ability to provide for myself in the future?

How do I feel about the stability of society?

The reason is that the universe has within it purpose - to have money one must have purpose else you will waste it and as such I would have purpose in not spending the residue of the 14 k, that being to guard against embarrassment.

50% Chance of 2000k but you have to wait 4 years.

A lot can happen in 4 years, you may find that the 2 million is crushed by hyperinflation and is only worth 50k at todays value or you may die in an accident etc, but a 50/50 chance at 2 mill with no/little investment risk at all is pretty good odds... but the way i see it you are basically betting 14k at 1 in 2 odds.

I'd take the 14k because id probably try and invest 10k of that in something tangible that i will still own, gold or silver may be a good option and buy myself some goodies with the 4k, probably a new computer etc.

Rather have 14k in my hand now with no risk than potentially have nothing in my hand in 4 years.

If it was something like 1k now or 50% chance of 1 million in 4 years id probably jump for the chance at 1 million as 1k wont make much difference, but 14k is too much for me to ignore... Its not life changing but would allow me some financial freedom to make some choices right now that i couldn't otherwise make.

That approach is understandable if somebody here earns upwards of 50k-100k a year, as 14k is not a lot of money these days.

But its still enough money to make me think seriously about it.
