Scale changed in 1985. The largest on record before today was a 5.2 in 1980. From my understanding, so you can compare apples to apples you simply add 1 point to any magnitudes that occurred after 1985. So with that being said today's quake, had it occurred before 1985, would be recorded at 5.3, making it the largest ever on record.

I felt this all the way up in NE Ohio, I thought the washing machine was out of balance, and yelled at my daughter for loading it unevenly again. I noticed from a big picture on the wall that started vibrating, making a scratching sound from moving against the wall. The washing machine wasn't running, my daughter said I was imagining things. LOL

besides... I know, they knew there bigger quakes to come, they want to take their time.

Would need a nuclear blast to achieve this. then theres no promise it would work.

Fracking. Same with Oklahoma, Texas and Ohio who've had swarms of earthquakes in the past 4 years.

Not real earthquakes but pumping water in the group is screwing something up.

Yes, these are real earthquakes that have S & P waves, although we do have fracking associated with man made earthquakes, there isn't any evidence yet, that this is a man made quake.

And if it is.... It's still an earthquake.

That was so cool! The towels in my bathroom was moving! My b/f was pooping and yelled at me> When I got in there he said I think we are having an earthquake.And I think it shook a turd And of course my pc crashes and I can't get to GLP, talk about doom! I see this theory a lot. It very well could be true, but no one ever talks about all the oil and gas that we have removed already, before we ever starting pumping chemicals back down.

The weight alone that we have removed from under the crust has to have some effect, on top of the fact that we have now removed a liquid (that does not compress) and replaced it with nothing in some areas. This has got to cause some kind of settling of the crust.

Combine that with all the water we've removed from the huge aquifer in that area, that adds up to even more weight being removed and more liquid being replaced with nothing.

Now add in the fact that the crust was already rebounding from a receding ice sheet from the last cooling period and you have a very large recipe for disaster.

I'm also sure you could add in the fact that we've removed tons and tons of trees in the area as well removing even more weight from the crust.

All this adds up to something big or simply means I have a very active mind...
