It was only 2 km deep. That is shallow, I wonder if there is any fracking in the region ?

I felt this in Columbus Ohio. It was pretty strong and went on for about 20-30 seconds. Other people here felt it too.

Fracking. Same with Oklahoma, Texas and Ohio who've had swarms of earthquakes in the past 4 years.

Not real earthquakes but pumping water in the group is screwing something up.
 Quoting: infiniteivan

It's not fracking. There is a fault there.

People act like earthquakes in mountain chains are not to be expected, now if this happened in West Kentucky I could see the worry, but for this location it is to be expected

Here's a direct link to fault map...
 Quoting: Southern Lighthouse

Yeah, I checked that link out, it was a good read.

The Appalachian mts. Didn't come from nowhere, that article highlights the action caused by the Atlantic pushing on the north American Craton. The quake was on the backside of the Apps. meaning what?...IDK.

I've driven down through St. Louis and into Atlanta Ga. and those mountains are so freaking nice to see and experience.

Good times that was.

I felt this all the way up in NE Ohio, I thought the washing machine was out of balance, and yelled at my daughter for loading it unevenly again. I noticed from a big picture on the wall that started vibrating, making a scratching sound from moving against the wall. The washing machine wasn't running, my daughter said I was imagining things. LOL peace

Sure covered a big area. This is NW Ohio:

As someone who has lived in Kentucky his entire life, as well as as a BS in Geology I suggest you just do a little research, and realized that when you have that kind of mass sitting on top of the craton you should expect to see the mass get displaced and ISO-statically readjust, go take a physics class mate.

Lol, why ?

We had a 4.7 in 2002, in The Midlands, England. THAT was very unusual, but nothing at all since.

Stop fearmongering, unusual quakes happen, it doesn't mean it is a precursor to doom !!

They are not unexpected but rare. I've lived in KY my whole life, too, and it was a first for me. Ancient mountains, deep faults.
