4.3 Earthquake EASTERN KENTUCKY

It was only 2 km deep. That is shallow, I wonder if there is any fracking in the region ?

For those that have not seen it.

I felt this in Columbus Ohio. It was pretty strong and went on for about 20-30 seconds. Other people here felt it too.

People act like earthquakes in mountain chains are not to be expected, now if this happened in West Kentucky I could see the worry, but for this location it is to be expected

Thanks for sharing that! Had not seen that before. Looked at the picture and that fault goes RIGHT THROUGH where I live in Alabama!!!

There are thousands of faults there, Its a thrust mountain system that is over 300 million years old

The Appalachian mts. Didn't come from nowhere, that article highlights the action caused by the Atlantic pushing on the north American Craton. The quake was on the backside of the Apps. meaning what?...IDK.

I've driven down through St. Louis and into Atlanta Ga. and those mountains are so freaking nice to see and experience.

As someone who has lived in Kentucky his entire life, as well as as a BS in Geology I suggest you just do a little research, and realized that when you have that kind of mass sitting on top of the craton you should expect to see the mass get displaced and ISO-statically readjust, go take a physics class mate.

We had a 4.7 in 2002, in The Midlands, England. THAT was very unusual, but nothing at all since.

Stop fearmongering, unusual quakes happen, it doesn't mean it is a precursor to doom !!

They are not unexpected but rare. I've lived in KY my whole life, too, and it was a first for me. Ancient mountains, deep faults.
