In one incident that caught CIA staff by surprise, Broadwell posted a photograph on her Facebook page of Petraeus with actress Angelina Jolie, taken in his 7th floor office where only the official CIA photographer is permitted to take photos. Petraeus had apparently given Broadwell the photo just hours after it was taken.

Posting a photo of Petraeus with a movie star on a Facebook page is obviously not much of a national security breach. But what may have raised concern is the pair’s apparent disregard, at least in this incident, for following security procedures and for circumspection. If she was posting unapproved photos of the CIA director’s office on her Facebook wall, then, you have to wonder, what did she see as too sensitive for social media but fine to share with friends? Or what did Petraeus feel was appropriate to share with her privately?

The point is not that Broadwell had access to anything more sensitive than a forbidden photo of her secret lover’s office, or that Petraeus had to share anything more. The point is that they, based on the reports out so far, disregarded normal CIA security procedures — which would also require disclosing a secret affair, given the potential for blackmail — and appeared to have invented their own. That Petraeus would invite someone into his personal and professional world — especially someone who was well known for being temperamental — without regard for normal security standards would be no small breach.

A senior U.S. military official identified the second woman as Jill Kelley, 37, who lives in Tampa, Fla., and serves as an unpaid social liaison to MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, where the military's Central Command and Special Operations Command are located.

Staffers for Petraeus said Kelley and her husband were regular guests at events he held at Central Command headquarters. A U.S. official said the coalition countries represented at Central Command gave Kelley an appreciation certificate on which she was referred to as an "honorary ambassador" to the coalition, but she has no official status and is not employed by the U.S. government.

The official, speaking on condition of anonymity because he wasn't authorized to discuss the case publicly, said Kelley is known to drop the "honorary" part and refer to herself as an ambassador.

They do not have dog in this fight...but offered interesting insight... Their take - The reason the Benghazi & Petreaus stories don't make sense is that we are not getting the truth. The truth is classified.

When portions of a classified story come out....Public affairs tries to craft a viable narrative which incorporates the released material but, of course, does not include an additional classified material. So it's like a reconstruction of the Dead Sea scrolls.. Portions are accurate/portions are filler (and not accurate)...

Here's why the public affairs job was so obvious w/ both Benghazi & Petreaus....

Benghazi - Right after the attack, they crafted a narrative with the interim Libyan Gov't (GNC). Asma Magarief (GNC President's daughter) confirmed that her Dad spent 2 days w/ US officials in closed door meetings immediately after attack...

If Libya were say France, that would have been end of it (hopefully). There would have been one consistent story. But Libya doesn't really have a gov't. Within hours of attack, Libyan Shield (militia) commander gave interview that released far more details than should have been released. Information has continue to pour out from Libyan side... So, story has changed to reflect on-going spillage.

Also, the fact that the Benghazi station was deemed to be a total loss meant that additional details could be released (like fact that 2nd compound was CIA station)... Also, an on-going interagency turf war related to the coming fiscal crisis means a number of people are leaking their agency's spin on events.

Finally, the fact that the Congressional hearings were not closed meant additional information came out. The biggest PR mistake (avoidable disclosure) was having open Congressional hearing... So, if you are interested in Benghazi - look at Congressional hearings & documents released as a result of hearings - too much came out....

Petraeus - Again story doesn't make sense, but story is public affairs creation (not the truth)... The story is changing due to leaks that are result of the inter-agency turf war we've seen over Benghazi...

In Paula's account they find evidence that she has classified material (Paula is former intelligence officer has high clearance) and steamy e-mails

Steamy e-mails traced to an anonymous GMail account belonging to Petraeus.

FBI fears someone is impersonating Petraeus.

They determine GMail account actually belongs to Petraeus. They fear he may be compromised because GMail of Commerce Sec was hacked by Chinese.

Two weeks ago FBI interviews Petraeus.

They determine that no foreign intelligence has hacked the account. No crime has been committed.

Wednesday - Clapper tells Petraeus he has to resign.

Thursday - Petraeus resigns and Friday he sends letter to all CIA staff, which is how affair becomes public...

Upshot - The Stories are total BS - but they have huge "holes" that are filled with a creamy BS frosty.. All in the name of national security..

Jill gets harassing e-mails & complains to FBI in May. They investigate cyber-stalking...go through sender's e-mail & find out she she is having affair with Petraeus. (Everything that's been released)

Petraeus warned - he ends affair in June. (Affair ended 4 months ago)..It's all covered up (as it would be - no criminal conduct)

Paula goes crazy...She's a former intelligence officer. She has his e-mail address (probably his password)... She starts cyber-stalking him...She reads classified material through his e-mail and starts discussing it during speeches - a desperate "pay attention to me" plea... She is major security issue.

That's why he has to resign. He's been responsible for a serious leak... He has been compromised... Maybe it was last week, it was probably the day after the Denver speech - but they held it until after the election....

Okay - I was wrong...It really was all about Benghazi... (Not the testifying part)....(the crazy bitch security breach part)

Federal prosecutors decided there was not enough evidence to file charges against Petraeus, who was interviewed by investigators during the week of Oct. 21. Broadwell was interviewed by agents for the last time the week before.

The FBI agent in Tampa had been taken off the investigation by that time. He was frustrated by the investigation’s apparent lack of progress, according to the person close to Kelley.

But the agent recently got in touch with the Washington office of Rep. Dave Reichert (R-Wash.) to express concern. Reichert then contacted Rep. Eric Cantor (Va.), the House Republican leader.

“I was contacted by an F.B.I. employee concerned that sensitive, classified information may have been compromised and made certain Director Mueller was aware of these serious allegations and the potential risk to our national security,” Cantor said in a statement issued Saturday. He referred to FBI Director Robert S. Mueller III.

CIA Director David Petraeus and Paula Broadwell adopted a well-worn online trick, in an apparent attempt to keep their communications secret.

They wrote their “intimate messages” as draft e-mails in a shared Gmail account, according to the AP, allowing them to see one anothers’ messages while leaving a much fainter data trail....

Rather than transmitting emails to the other’s inbox, they composed at least some messages and instead of transmitting them, left them in a draft folder or in an electronic “dropbox,” the official said. Then the other person could log onto the same account and read the draft emails there. This avoids creating an email trail that is easier to trace.

A federal agent who launched the investigation that ultimately led to the resignation of Central Intelligence Agency chief David Petraeus was barred from taking part in the case over the summer due to superiors' concerns that he had become personally involved in the case, according to officials familiar with the probe.

New details about how the Federal Bureau of Investigation handled the case suggest that even as the bureau delved into Mr. Petraeus's personal life, the agency struggled with questionable conduct by one of its own—including allegedly sending shirtless photos of himself to a woman involved in the case.

FBI officials declined to identify the agent, who is now under investigation by the Office of Professional Responsibility, the internal-affairs arm of the FBI, according to two officials familiar with the matter.

The FBI officials found that he had sent shirtless pictures of himself to Ms. Kelley, according to the people familiar with the probe.

That same agent, after being barred from the case, contacted a member of Congress, Washington Republican David Reichert, because he was concerned senior FBI officials were going to sweep the matter under the rug, the officials said. That information was relayed to top congressional officials, who notified FBI headquarters in Washington.

Hey DD amongst all the hullabaloo nobody seems to remember the thread on 10/31 about Drudge about to out a sex scandel in the admin. I assume that this is what they were pointing at. If I am correct someone leaked this to Drudge rather than take it to the Pres. Now just who might that be someone who would profit from the outting but could get badly burned if the fire turned on them perhaps? Note the date on the Drudge thread is 7 days prior to the election itself. Ask yourself what politicians knew about this and yet failed to warn the Whitehouse but might profit (political party wise) from this hitting before the election. Interesting no.

The emails that Jill Kelley showed an FBI friend near the start of last summer were not jealous lover warnings like “stay away from my man,” a knowledgeable source tells The Daily Beast.

The messages were instead what the source terms “kind of cat-fight stuff.”

“More like, ‘Who do you think you are? … You parade around the base … You need to take it down a notch,’” according to the source, who was until recently at the highest levels of the intelligence community and prefers not to be identified by name.....

When the FBI friend showed the emails to the cyber squad in the Tampa field office, her fellow agents noted that the absence of any overt threats.

“No, ‘I’ll kill you’ or ‘I'll burn your house down,’” the source says. “It doesn’t seem really that bad.” The squad was not even sure the case was worth pursuing, the source says. “What does this mean? There’s no threat there. This is against the law?” the agents asked themselves by the source’s account.

At most the messages were harassing. The cyber squad had to consult the statute books in its effort to determine whether there was adequate legal cause to open a case. “It was a close call,” the source says.

What tipped it may have been Kelley’s friendship with the agent. The squad opened a case, though with no expectation it would turn into anything significant....
