They were greeted as saviors and the Aussie women were throwing themselves at the US soldiers. He claims to have had sex with approximately 20 Australian women during that time. A true hero. | Anonymous Coward User ID: 27482975 11/10/2012 09:44 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The reality is at that time US soldiers had HUGELY higher compensation (only at the time), better uniforms, and were willing to spend. Whereas the economy at the time was depressed in Australia. There was also a shortage of men in general, given the casualties of war. They were not treated as heroes, rather, they did Australia a service by picking up all the ugly, desperate women left up on the shelf who couldn't land a good aussie man. In fact the US actually chartered a train, known as 'the bridal train', which left from Perth in the west of the country, and it traversed across australia picking up war brides (again, these were known to not be the pick of the bunch of aussie women) and they shipped of to the US to be with their husbands to be. |

Don't ever go to an RSL club, or even a bar, in Australia and repeat your story. It would be lights out for you. Most old timers know their history well, and preying on and taking advantage of vulnerable social dynamics when scores of thousands of Australians died or were heavily wounded, your claims of 'heroism' really would not go down well at all. |
