Burma isnt Burma anymore? Who knew?

wasnt obama planning on visiting burma and thiland this month? What a coincidence. I found it strange.

The United Nations and several other organizations have reported consistent and systematic human rights violations in the country, including genocide, systematic rape, child labour, slavery, human trafficking and a lack of freedom of speech. Nevertheless in recent years, the government has slowly been improving relations with the major powers like the United States, Japan and European Union countries.

"Nov 11 - A major earthquake measuring 7.0 magnitude struck Myanmar on Sunday, around 60 km (37 miles) northwest of the city of Mandalay, the U.S Geological Survey said.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries from the quake, which was quiet shallow at around 10km (6 miles) deep.

Residents from Mandalay, the second biggest commercial city in central Myanmar, told Reuters that they felt a very strong tremor at about 7:30 a.m.

"I've never felt such strong tremor. I also heard some loud noises and the light went out. No idea about the damage," a local resident said.

Residents in Bangkok, the capital of neighbouring Thailand, also said the felt the strong quake.

Officials from the Nay Pyi Taw-based Meteorological Departments were not immediately available for comment."

President Barack Obama is scheduled to become the first American president to visit Myanmar during a Nov. 17-20 tour of Southeast Asia that will include Thailand and Cambodia, the White House said Thursday.

The quake was initially estimated at 7.0 magnitude but was revised lower by the USGS.

EQReport.com is reporting that 1 million people will be affected by this quake. The depth of the quake was very shallow.

Update 01:38 UTC : We do absolutely NOT like what we see. Also the nearby Chinese seismological instruments are reporting a Magnitude of M7.0 at a depth of 20 km ! Such an earthquake at this depth is very destructive !
