Latest report:

It's also still not clear what led to the blast.

"We haven't ruled out anything and we haven't made any determinations," said Bacon.

The investigation is expected to take several weeks, though initial indicators pointed to a natural gas leak.

OP/Scorpio66, how are you doing & can you update us?
 Quoting: Seagal5

I'm here! I finally conked out sometime this morning and I'm trying to catch up. I don't really have any updates, but I did just get a text from Fox59 saying 80 homes were damaged and 3.6 million estimated damage.

I'll catch up and then poke around and see if I can find anything new!

Thanks to everyone for keeping this active and updated. I will do my best to stay on it and keep my eyes and ears open for any information.

Oh and as for the other "south side" house that blew up a couple of weeks ago - I do recall seeing that when it happened, but it didn't make much of an impact at the time as it seemed to be downtown (on the south side of downtown) and in an old, decrepit, vacant home. It really was just a few small lines and no big deal, or so it seemed. Certainly didn't feel it and it wasn't reported from miles and miles around, etc. My biggest concern, honestly, is that this is/was/could be somehow related to BP/Sinkhole/Methane/New Madrid. Especially with the KY quake yesterday... big coincidence? I sure hope so!

Ok, off to catch up, I'll be back!
 Quoting: scorpio66

80 homes being damaged is significantly high for a residential gas explosion.

There are problems with accepting that a residential natural gas explosion can cause this amount of damage and also the distance at which the blast was heard and felt.

These circumstances alone indicate something with more explosive and especially a more rapid energy release than a natural gas explosion.

Natural gas indeed causes explosions, no question about that. But the pure physics of the situation limit the amount of energy that is released and how fast it is released.

The gas has to have an optimum fuel/oxygen ratio which from a random leak to the application of a random spark has a random value if it is all just an accident. The optimal ratio presenting itself to do the optimal damage is a crapshoot.

Methane which is what commercial pipe delivered natural gas is, is lighter than air, so what happens in a leak in a residence is that the gas rises to the upper floors or ceiling of a single floor. The gas that rises displaces the air so the gas at the top of the structure is richer and doesn't burn as readily.

Somewhere between the bottom and top of the structure will be the most volatile fuel/oxygen mixture. When it does ignite, it doesn't immediately burn all the gas within the structure instantly because of the varying mixture. What tends to happen is one or more windows or a wall are blown out which allows additional air into the mix and allows for the burning of the remaining gas to be facilitated.

But now the pressure has been released by the breaches in the structure and the remaining gas makes a huge fireball as it exits through the blown out windows or wall. Then the place usually just burns down.

The bottom line is this: a house full of natural gas can indeed explode but it doesn't instantly generate enough blast pressure to cause what has been witnessed and reported.

This isn't the same as what happened in San Bruno, CA either where a high pressure gas main failed. More of the surrounding homes would have been thoroughly torched if that were the case here.

The question is where would gas leak from. For those who don't know its been determined that there are no gas lines in the neighborhood. At least thats the last I had heard, I could be behind.

So is it only 2 deaths then? It could have been so much worse looking at the pictures so I'm glad it's "just" the two, but that sounds so wrong to say. I hope you understand what I mean though.

They used a wedding picture of the deceased school teacher and her husband and it's so sad. Young couple, lives ahead of them and all that. Very sad.

I guess it is better this didn't happen on a weeknight when everyone would have been home for sure.

It also says some pets are on the loose over there. Hopefully, since they've allowed some residents to gather belongings they'll be able to round up the scared pets while they're there.

And, I want to say, I'm not an Indiana native - I've lived here for 10+ years and consider myself an honorary Hoosier by now, but I wanted to say - these Indiana folks - when something terrible happens they really spring into action to help each other out. I think of the State Fair collapse and the pictures of the fairgoers running TO the disaster and not from it and trying to lift the scaffolding with their bare hands. And now this says there were many off-duty police and fire that showed up in shorts and sneakers after hearing the explosion and just jumping in their cars and heading over and other neighbors rushing out of their homes to rescue people. And , very quickly last night the locals almost immediately brought supplies to the fire stations. It's a wonderful place to live and I'm very touched by the actions of the good people of Indiana.

The poster with the "no gas lines" find during the night came back moments after posting that with another link indicating that there was at least one home in the neighborhood with a gas fireplace which would seem to indicate there is gas in the neighborhood at least to some degree. This seems to be true as the gas company guy was shown waiting outside the perimeter to further check on things but hadn't been allowed to the actual scene yet (from earlier in the day, may have changed now).

In looking at the aerial photos, does anyone here see where 80 homes are damaged/destroyed?!

Imo, this is related to the "bunker" explosion in Minden, LA and other minor events . . . a series of meteorites are hitting earth as precursor to "deep impact".

So many weird first responder inconsistencies with how this was handled. ..from DHS first on scene...to radio scanner code words and coverup/switching channels. I was an Insurance claims adjuster and the cops don't care if you are listening and catch their codes for fatalities...Independent claims adjuster rely on this...being the first on scene to take photos is their bread and butter...you sell those (for big bucks) to the attorneys representing the fatalities. Yes, its ambulance chasing and despicable but it happens.

So here is the one thing I can't wrap my head around...and it is really clear in the pictures of the first responders on the scene at night fighting the fires...ok here is my question....If they were responding to a possible natural gas or methane gas explosion why oh why are none of the firefighters wearing their breathing masks?

Was looking around for all the information I could find on this explosion and came across this site. One of the poster's there has on site source's of this explosion. Just started posting a few things, so not a lot there yet.

But maybe worth checking? I don't know.

What caught my eye:

"Also, i can report from a VERY RELIABLE SOURCE... that there was a building up of a ROARING Sound that was heard OVERHEAD right before the huge BOOM was heard."

Also look's like a Reporter for this site has found a NASA Connection! A payload specialist. WTF is going on????

Google (nearly) any known gas explosion and look at photos of fire responders and you will see the same.

I am the OP and local here - I did not hear any build up or roaring sound and thus far no one I've talked to that also felt/heard it has said anything like that. Not to say it isn't true, just that I can't substantiate it personally.

And, if it helps, my dogs were all resting around me and they did not act strange or alert in anyway until the intial BIG JOLT and single BOOM occurred in which I thought a car had surely crashed into the house and then we all jumped at the same time. I know that sometimes dogs seem to sense EQ or similar phenomena so thought I'd mention.

So until natural gas and methane is ruled out, it is against protocol for first responders to disregard this uncertainty...unless they knew what caused it.

I don't have to resort to Google, I have unique personal experience that pertains to this particular type of situation. I have investigated countless residential fires and explosions for fraud and while I reserve judgement on what may have caused the damage (because first responders mayhave contributed certain damages while searching for survivors) I will say this still looks unusual.

Exactly !!! It was just laughable how in Minden, LA there was minimal damage, but further west nest Lake ?? (can't remember the name) some homes were VERY damaged, one off the foundation, if I remember right. In that event, lots of people had been reporting a fireball traveling from Texas toward LA. No doubt in my mind that the devastation came from the sky. - meteorite... plane... missile... ?????
 Quoting: Yes I Did !!!!

Why is it so hard for YOU PEOPLE to grasp that it may not have been a meteorite, plane, drone, missle, etc.? Tesla weapons are REAL! Russians deveoloped them first! Star Wars program in US led to further development of this and other EM and DEW weapons! It is possible that this was a natural gas explosion, but given all the reports on here about "fireballs", no craters, loud booms, shaking of houses, etc., why can't YOU PEOPLE think outside the MSM's box?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 26476073

Are they beating the drums of war over this. NO.

Are they yelling we've been attacked. NO

Will this be a false flag. NO

Will it be anything but the obvious Gas Explosion that it was. NO

Even a meteorite would have been seen on the Camera's as it came in. Nothing there.

One of the very first things people around here were saying last night was that a plane had crashed. There is a very small air field fairly close to the house explosion. Keep in mind, it's really an air "field" with very small planes only, not a major airport. BUT, then the Mayor apparently appeared at the explosion neighborhood and dismissed it saying "nope, wasn't a plane" and then I didn't see much about it again. It would have to have been a small one though to be something related to the tiny airport over there.
