Just saw the thread can someone sum up the options

Could it be a meteor.
I'm in eastern Canada and saw something in sky heading west around 5 pm eastern time
Did post with link to pics - phone did autocorrect and put "western sky" but was not my intention. Thread: Something in western sky in Atlantis Canada - black trail -

And Indianapolis is not that far for such object.
The bright and shiny tail is due to the sun. When it did set down further the tail was smoky black.

Again just got to see the thread and 23 pages is a long read.
I came with that question because of the "falling debris"
