Holy Moly.

I was going through a box of records yesterday and for fun (yeah, right!) added the amounts I've paid since my first taxable job in 1975 at the age of 15.
 Quoting: Miggy

The millions of government employees, and most definitely their unions, all thank you.

If it weren't for your generosity, they wouldn't have a reliable salary, regular pay raises, good healthcare, wonderful pension plans, and more holiday and vacation time than just about anyone else (hey, sucks to be you working stiffs in the private sector).

Government workers and their unions are forever in your debt.

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1093381

Last year the city of San Diego spent $.89 for every dollar taken in...on ghost pensions. Union municiple employees who are retired and deceased (their surviving spouses receive the funds).

Most municipalities are set up and spend the same way. Your taxes don't even go to build or maintain anything except for building retirement accounts and maintaining other people's rich lifestyles.

The scary thing is that this isn't including such things as property taxes from when I owned homes, sales taxes, taxes on my former small business, or charitable deductions.

The total must surely be near a half a million dollars.

And this country STILL is in debt?!

People, I am 52 years old. I have nothing left to give to this country.

But I know you're all younger than me.

You must do something NOW to save yourselves.

I have no idea what that might be but hopefully this thread will start a discussion.

Jimminy. This truth was one tough pill to swallow.

Miggy, you don't get something for nothing.
Stop your whining.
You have the choice to go live in a small cabin in the forests and live off the forests and pay little taxes, but you didn't. You can move to any other Country if you wish.

I'd like to hear what you appreciate about America.
I appreciate a lot of things about living here. Sure, there are some things I don't like, but I don't wish to move. I've adjusted. If I want more, I work more. And I'm 8 years OLDER than you. I don't have to have a new car each year, I don't have to waste a lot of time in shopping malls. There are a lot of things I can do that don't cost much.

Stop whining.
Steve.

Great thread OP. I'm 33, have lived in Canada my whole life. I have never been on any kind of social assistance and hope I never am. I run a small construction business and its all I can do to keep it going. Taxes are basically killing me. I take a small wage every month, about $4000 and I pay close to $2200 income tax every single month. I live comfortably but frugally no fancy vacations, rarely eat out. Its almost impossible to get ahead when the system is stacked against you. Hope things get better for you.

NO SUCH THING AS FREE HEALTH CARE.

It comes out of your friggin' taxes, you dumbass socialist lefties.

NO ONE WORKS FOR FREE, GOT NEWS FOR YA.

Those Canadian doctors, nurses and hospital staff have to GET PAID. They own homes or rent, they have to buy food and gas and whatever. They need money to live. That money has to come FROM SOMEWHERE.

Those hospital buildings don't get FREE ELECTRICITY, HEAT, WATER, GAS, etc. The electric company has employees, as does the water and gas companies. THEY HAVE TO GET PAID, YOU LEFTY JACKASSES.

A cruise missile costs $600,000.

[link to www.kgbanswers.com]

At least 1526 used in combat since cruise missile inception and 3500 stockpiled equaling $2.6 billion and giving the US and the World more security.

[link to en.wikipedia.org]

This is only a fraction of how much the US spends on defense each year. They also spend on maintaining the roads you drive every day, the schools your kid goes to, and everything else you take for granted.

Your estimated contribution to this years budget is 3.4x10^-10%. Shut the fuck up and pay your taxes and be thankful you are alive.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 22899606

That's part of the problem AC... Many of us have worked since we were 14 and 15 years old, paid our taxes, never collected a cent through those years, but had NO SAY about what our governments used our tax dollars for.

My full time working life started at age 14 and at 58 I'm still working full time.. our total household income was never considered very high. Raised our boys, moved to get jobs only to have the doors close again, and have to move again.. Lived off the land, so to speak, for 13 years, gardening, heating and cooking using wood stoves, and a handpump to get water, all while trying to pick up jobs hoping our area would revive.. of course it never did. We lost our shirts again and moved on.. never got above lower middleclass.. so we are still in debt and struggling.

Those who were lucky enough to be able to live and work in one place without having to move, tend to have come through the years better than those of us who were forced to relocate to continue to earn a living.

Life happens to people and you would be wise to be aware of that.. some people through no fault of their own find themselves in financial trouble. The best laid plans of mice and men don't always work out.

We have run for local council, thinking we could make a difference, but found out the rules are made by the ones that are NOT voted in, and they keep their jobs regardless of voting results.

Some people just sort of fall into a great situation.. without a plan or any effort on their part.. there is very little in the way of rhyme or reason sometimes.

Of course then you have the people who planned and their lives went according to their plan.

Then there is the group who figure out early on that it's much easier to live off the earnings of others, and don't even try to earn their own way.

I can relate totally with Miggy when she says she is tired out and feeling crushed by the system...We are too.. and we still have years of work ahead of us.

So you’ll have to excuse me if I find the term “useless eater” offensive just because we are over 50 .. and I hate being told we should "suck it up" and be happy to be alive and working.. Especially when our government manages to squander the dollars we worked so hard to earn without any thought of the people who they collected that money from.

Those of us who have reached this point in our lives find our joy in life, “in spite” of the government policies not because the government has done anything for us.

Everything you create while you're alive will eventually go to the people who call themselves our government....including your children.

Since you can't take anything with you, all that you leave behind will be used to create more taxes.

I have an antique store and here's a conclusion I made.

a) Everything in the store once belonged to someone else.

b) Everything in the store has been taxed 10-20 times already during it's lifetime.

c) Everything I sell will again belong to someone else and get taxed some more when it changes hands.

We really never OWN anything. We are just currators of shit that will belong to someone else evenutally. In the mean time, we pay taxes, insurance, and money to maintain it while it's in our posession.

The way to get out of the cycle is to reuse the stuff you have now and don't buy anything new unless you have to.

Buy and own silver coins. As inflation increases, you will be able to pay all of your bills by selling small portions of silver then pay bills with the inflated cash.

A quarter from 1964 will buy $6 worth of stuff today.

Its called REVENGE.

Obama spoke the words himself.

REVENGE is what the current administration wants. REVENGE against the working class.

He plans to take the money away from those working and give it to the democrat voting class non working welfare recipents.

You have 2 options.
1. Become a leach and get on the government check.
2. Buy a big jar of vaseline so that is doesn't hurt as much.

Good luck with the change that was voted in by the welfare class.

You've allowed 5 major wars (Korean, Vietnam, Desert Storm, Iraqi Freedom, War on Terror).

You've allowed trillions in corporate bailouts where you've given the Federal Reserve a free pass to print whatever they want.

You've allowed the outsourcing of American jobs to third world countries where they can import their products cheaply.

You've allow the government to constantly violate the Constitution and you do nothing about it.

You've allowed politics to divide and conquer this country.

Don't like paying that much for fire, police, roads and national defense? Leave for a third world entity. You will have to provide all utilities and infrastructure yourself. You will have almost little or no opportunity to earn a fraction of what you do now.
