Walmart Workers to Strike on Black Friday

I admit that I go maybe twice a year. Sundry type stuff; shampoo, soap etc.

Some of those Black Friday shoppers are frickin' nuts. I wonder if Walmart would just have to close if all their staff went on strike for Black Friday? I can't see them being able to handle the crowds. Or maybe they'll just bring in some (more) militarized police in riot gear?

Of all entities, banks should be ashamed of themselves for low balling their employees and treating them like rubbish. It's just plain mean spirited.

I know what President Reagan would do... He'd declare Walmart protected and threaten to fire any employee who did not report for work on Black Friday just line he did with the air traffic controllers and PATCO, that's what a real president would do... Taking shit from little people, why the fuck are we elites then?

I work in healthcare and we always have to cover holidays, even round the clock.

How simple it would be IF managers first OFFERED overtime. There are those who would jump at any overtime, whereas there are those with family obligations in which it might pose a hardship.

If a manager had a pea-sized brain why not just post what extra shifts need covered, let the employees sign up for any ones they want to do, and then lower seniority to assign what wasn't filled.

When I was a single mother, I would get a sitter and take ALL the overtime I could. Now as a senior I value more holidays with my family.

As one whose dad died New years day, yet he was the one who went All out for every holiday "as if it was the last one" our needs and values change.

Overtime and holiday pay should always be first voluntary. You'd have happier more productive employees who have respect for their manager.

I sometimes wonder if the bloodshed is over from that and housing will thrive again.

That's what we do at my work.

Now I think employee are threatened to work 40hrs but get paid for only 30hrs just to keep their job.

Some people here at GLP claim that to be true.

So overtime is not an option.

Not for me...I applied to work there and told the manager I would take ANY of the strikers jobs from them. I'd rather be treated poorly than not earn a paycheck at all in this economy.

Save your money, get out of debt and never use credit cards. Do not buy cheap crap you don't even need. Barter whenever you can, this helps both buyer and seller. When you do have to buy new then try to use a locally owned business.

So these people want to prove that they are the ones making the economy go bad and not Obama?

The only way to prove a system doesn't work is to do the best you can with what's available and then show the failure of it.

why not establish a black week so everyone has enough time to benefit insead of risking peoples injuries or deaths in the supermarket stampede??????

I have to point out here that all the people who trash wal-mart but then go buy apple products and praise the virtues of Apple are hypocrits.

Just telling it like it is. Apple is guilty of all the same things and they overcharge for their products too boot because people are too brainwashed by image to see through to the core truth. Apple and Wal-Mart have the same business practices.

I see this go on again and again and I will call people out on it every time no matter how much they hate me for it. Stop being brainwashed sheep and you don't need to be called out. :)

On another note, Wal-Mart opens now at 8PM thanksgiving day, it's thanksgiving day they need to strike, not Friday. Then it will be madness. :) Getting everything ready and coordinating the open of the deals is the hard part. The busy time will be Thanksgiving evening, 8PM through midnight, and all the setup and preparation done during the day. That's when the strike needs to be.

I think they let Walmart know too early about a strike. Wallyworld will now just hire a bunch of temps to fill positions for Black Friday. It wouldn't surprise me if all employees that strike are fired and replaced since these jobs don't require much skill.

They're probably wanting riot gear and being denied.

I think their motivation is frustration. Doubt it will catch on though. We Americans love to buy stuff. Yay stuff!

i have never participated in a black friday. it has become a sport for some over here and further illustrates our descent into an obamanation.
