An AP story this morning has us concerned, Earlobe Creases as a Sign of Heart Disease
Dr. Anne Tybjaerg-Hansen presented research at an American Heart Association conference yesterday in which researchers at the University of Copenhagen correlated 11,000 Danish people's appearances with their incidence of heart disease. The stories are based on that.

"The visible signs of aging reflect physiologic or biologic age and are independent of chronologic age," she said -- which is a super engaging proposition. The age-is-just-a-number theory takes us from college bars to Zuckerberg to Sandusky, and now to cardiovascular risk factors. Appraising someone's heart just by looking at them would be cost-effective and great, for doctors and discerning suitors alike.

Earlobe crease
But, but; but -- the physical characteristics that correlated with heart disease in this study were few:

Baldness/receding hairline
Bumpy cholesterol deposits around the eyes
Earlobe creases

Somebody told me this about 20 yrs ago and I have creases in my ear lobes .I was saying bullshit/whatever. THEN 2 years ago had a heart attack at 50 and had 3 stents put in. Makes sense to me.

I remember hearing this 20 years ago and would tease my dad about it, I was checking everyone's earlobes. Yet he lived another 38 years. Go Figure.

I heard about this 20 years ago as well and since I didn't have earlobe creases thought I was OK but like you had a major heart attack at age 50!

So maybe or not. . . .I dunno.
One of the most important aspects of conspiracy theories is being able to discern when there isn't one.

Oh yeah, like you'd understand anyway.

Where are we going and why am I in this handbasket?. . .J. Handy

Wow! I know someone with earlobe creases who had a heart attack at 53. Good health, no sign of heart disease then pow!

Hardly new news? Read this ... Bumpy cholesterol deposits around the eyes -- Not a normal sign of aging. It's called xanthelasma, and it often means high cholesterol. An association with cardiovascular disease makes sense.

Earlobe creases are also a sign of diabetes. I had one, I found out I have type 2, and got it under control, now no ear lobe crease!

A few studies have looked for a link between earlobe creases and heart disease. ... crease was a useful sign to predict heart disease in people with diabetes ...

btw you do understand that cholesterol is a solvent, like a thinner for fat, not actually fat itself.

It has something to do with the formation of collagen in relationship to blood vessels .

True, a couple of studies have questioned the evidence.
