WHERE IS THE PRESIDENT NOW? NO NEED TO BE THERE SINCE HE GOT ELECTED RIGHT? YOU ALL KNOW IT WAS A SHOW TO GET ELECTED. SANDY WAS REALLY THE PERFECT STORM IN EVERY WAY.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 2990625

You sound a little retarded. So the president now has to get a hard hat and fix power lines. This is why America is failing.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 14564403

Maybe he should because he sucks as a president
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 24637305

Maybe you shouldn't have as hard a job like that for him, maybe he could be a caddy seeing he loves golf more than life itself it seems.

So being a caddy would probably be a job he would be perfect for, fixing powerlines, then you'd probably never have any electricity there.

What the Hell. Why don't people pick things up and organize things a bit. Clean squaller is a bit better than getting your clothes off the ground, Sorry but the first pic shows me that people expect for others to do or them. all it takes is for one person to start the ball rolling. I realize they are probebly sick and tired. but to live in filth is crazy. I m not their so i couldnt even persume how they are coping, God I pray that they find thier own peace and comfort, cause it;s obvious, no one gonna do it for them

Well some of your people turned socialists, socialists always turn to the state and scream about them to help them, I've never gotten any help from those fuckers and I live in a socialist land, never trust a socialist, he will always think of ways to steal your money, rape you and eventually murder you in some concentration camp, gulag or in some killing field or maybe just starve you to death.

I KNOW America wasn't founded by any socialists, the nation would have died the first month.

What I truly do not understand when I watch that video.. is how people think they are going to have power in their homes any time soon!
The water line inside the house was 2/3 to ¾ the way up the first floor wall. All the wiring got wet, all the connections got wet… the electrical panel, which is usually in a basement would have been under water, salt water, for a few days at least…. There isn’t a chance in hell these people will see power in their homes until that wiring is all replaced… if their homes aren’t condemned.

These people need to be looking at relocating.. winter is here and they cannot live in those houses.

I feel you! Here on the Spaced Coast of Florida,in 2004 we were hit by Hurricanne Charlie, no warning due to retarded forecasters, and lost power for 3 weeks at my house, in 96 degree weather with 90% humidity end of August.

I would not know if the media covered it at all, but we had giant live oaks blocking the roads, no sign of FEMA, Red Cross, no relief whatsoever. We got out our chain saws and opened the roads ourselves. We did not expect any relief.

As soon as power was restored, we got hit by Hurricane Frances, lost power again for another 3 weeks. I had waist deep water in my yard, finally got ahold of a generator, boiled water on my propane grill. etc, then got hit by Hurricane Jeanne.

None of us here expected help. We never got any either. We just did for ourselves. It was brutal

I feel awful for poeple dealing with cold weather and no electricity. Hot humid weather no electricity is no picnic either. Forget about sleep. Try hauling ten tons of oak branches during tropical weather.

My point is that nobody I knew expected government assistance. Why do these people in Sandy expect it?

if they put the powerlines underground, nobody would have lost power. Plus, they don't gotta cut down all the trees a long the roads. It's expensive to bury the powerlines though, so they don't do it. I don't know too much about it, maybe it's expensive because they don't have enough equipment to do it on a large scale.

I can't imagine though, it's less expensive when they have to replace all those transformers. Here the underground lines just have metal boxes on the ground, I've never seen anyone do maintenance on them in 20 years. They are built to last decades with virtually no maintenance.

Nobody strings fiber optic cables along telephone poles, why do it with power lines?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 27433840

Indeed it's not cheap. But that's the way it is done here.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 26991073

I just read in Newsday (Long Island newspaper), LIPA estimates that it would cost between 20 - 30 billion to bury the wires.

You would almost have to disconnect every house from the electric pole.

Every house is a potential fire if the power is turned on without very close inspection.

What about any gas leaks or gasoline cans that have leaked or are leaking in the structure.

There is no way that a power utility will just turn on power to a neighbor hood.........

Me I would be looking for a yacht to move into.

You can prepare but know when to go to family or friends for awhile.

do you know why we don't do it? we don't do it because so much money that should be spent in upgrading infrastructure goes to paying for benefits for the obamaphone people and other assorted parasites.

this is no surprise when you think that most of our sewer systems are over 100 years old with no money for upgrades anywhere in sight.

You need to keep something in mind. Tropical weather may be very unpleasant and uncomfortable. But if you are wet and the temperatures drop into the teens and 20s you WILL freeze to death, plain and simple.

Stop comparing a few mosquitos and sweaty hot nights to being put into a freezer to die.

Get a grip. Like to see you survive a 10 degree night in a sleeping bag. LMAO.

YOU ARE ANIMALS.

YOU ARE SLAVES TO THE GOVERNMENT.

WISE THE FUCK UP AND PREPARE YOURSELVES NEXT TIME.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 27412420

NO Wise the phuck up and FIRE the Government, they are all inept and incompetent. Get it through your head the government works for the people at least it should. They need a wake up call.

Not just our neighbors to the south, here in Canuckistan too!! Plucking Harper is a piece of chit dictator too. Here ya go......

1) round up all the bankers and stop all privately owned banks ie: the Federal Reserve and Bank of Canada.

2) clean house in all forms of Government and Law, supreme court on down to you're local cop shops. Ship all B.A.R. Oath swearing judges and lawyers over to Britain.

3) kick out the U.N.

This list could go on for awhile and the Beast System is sooooooooo entrenched in society that I do not believe moral men, men of good conscience can turn it around. This is in Gods hands now.

I just read in Newsday (Long Island newspaper), LIPA estimates that it would cost between 20 - 30 billion to bury the wires.

How the hell did so much more of the grid in Europe get strung underground, going back to the beginning of modern service? While they have some of their system overhead, it's no where near as much as here in the US.

When high winds cause downed lines in America, I've read that Europeans often are puzzled why a supposed First World country ends up with so many power blackouts.

But we did elect King Obama, after all.
