also, it is nearly impossible to have a fatal collision in a round about. IT would save billions in healthcare and hospital expenses, not to mention car insurance rates.

You'd be best off saying, the roundabouts will look a lot prettier because the center of them will be nicely manicured.

there is a roundabout in cape cod massachusettes at a busy intersection. lotsa tourists. most people panic in the fucker and end up doin loops

As it is in most all things we should follow nature with this. Remove all stop signs and traffic lights. Let natural selection and survival of the fittest prevail. The weak, meek and underpowered cars would be pushed to the side. The strong in driving prowess would soon rain supreme and usher in a new revolution of progress for our great society.

We use cheap materials that are NOT meant to last more that 3 months smooth and after 7 months looks like cracked shit ghetto ass roads like it did right before they fixed it.


We spend Trillions of dollars yet The country dosnt see a penny of it that goes toward LONG LASTING materials. NOOO they would just use the cheapest most Toxic Materials they can find on the market to fuck up the infrastructure.

yeah, the road materials they use on the Autoban last a long time, because you don't wanna hit a pothole doing 150mph. I just really wonder how much cheaper it actually is, to use these high grade materials, that don't need as much maintenance.

Low bid wins the contract though, that's the law.

Also, though it's the heavy trucks that ruin the roads, so much transportation in the US depends on trucking. If it was just cars, the roads would last a long time.

it's hard to keep roads perfect on cold climates. If it routinely gets significantly below freezing, like in the great plains, roads will buckle and heave over time, that's just the way it is.

A good base is important, but there's no base that will completely prevent heaving outside of going below the frost line, which is why houses in cold climates tend to have basements. With that said, they are redoing stretches of interstate around here that don't really need it.

South Dakota for some reason has great interstate condition compared to neighboring states like MN.

That's what' great about hybrids or electrics. The engine shuts off when the car isn't moving. Saves a ton of energy.

Roundabouts are a good idea, but they do take a lot more land.

Another great thing about roundabouts is you can go right, straight, left, or even a U-turn from the same intersection, all without crossing oncoming traffic.

I was in one of those roundabouts on Cape Cod, with a Semi-Truck. Dumb ass tried to pass me on the right shoulder, hit my rear tandem and trashed his car. Then tried to blame me! Cops arrested his butt for disorderly conduct, passing on the right and assaulting a police officer. He also had to pay for damage to my truck.

Our drivers are bad enough as it is, couldn't you see the Three Stooges type situations that would happen.

There are a few roundabouts where I grew up, and a couple where I live now. They are all on lightly traveled streets. Most drivers freak when there is more than one car. Instead of going with they flow they just sit there or pull in not paying attention to anything else and end up having fender benders. I couldn't imagine them on heavily traveled or high speed streets, I think there would be a raise in automobile casualties if we installed roundabouts instead of stop lignts. Though, there are some that don't pay attention to lights either, I've been hit twice at stop lights.

a roundabout uses not much more land than a conventional four way stop intersection. traffic flows flows smoother no head on or t-bone collisions . but it would seriously kill the traffic light industry lol

I live in a town with one sitting at THE main intersection in town (small town...). It is sometimes hilarious to watch divers completely fall apart when they get to it. Pretty simple folks, yield to the left (in America)... :) I've seen people just flat out STOP in mid circle because they have no idea what to do... I do agree, but insurance rates would SKYROCKET ;)

Good argument. Germany apparently only has to pave roads once every 20 years or something crazy like that. They do it right the first time so it lasts. Why wont they do that here?? Because we would put how many people out of work, it would cost to much on the front end...on and on and on. According to dictator Obama, "We need shovel-ready jobs".
