Considering how many meals include a flour based product (bread, noodles, gravy, etc) you get an idea of how difficult it will be to get grains for flour. Sugar is a luxury item, cane sugar is imported from off shore resources. Thus the cost of shipping makes it not worth shipping. Beet sugar is processed, and that processing makes it expensive in an energy starved economy. Salt is iffy. It is a necessity to life, and it is relatively easy to be had from mines and from sea sources. If you live near a salt mine or a sea water evaporation plant, chances are high salt will be easy to have. If you live too far, then the cost will make it prohibitive. Waxes will be on that list. Petroleum based Paraffin will be rationed since oil is. Bee wax will be rationed due to a singular lack of colonies/hives compared to the large population seeking candles. Batteries may no longer be produced in quantity, assume the worse that they are not produced at all. If you live in a city and gasoline is being rationed, expect all foods to be far and few between and heavily rationed. Good luck getting out to the rural areas as most cities would most likely be under curfew and with guard checks on all roads out to keep people inside. It is not really a bad policy, as the USA is way overbuilt for its demographics and utility infrastructure. Problem is, if they were being honest, they should have done it 10 years ago, before all the cronies in the banking and home building industries got rich and bailed out. |
