All the states are already "occupied" by military and other federal agencies.

They will respond to the presidents orders

which military? US? UN? NATO?

Let's say the soldiers in the seceding states tell the feds to go fuck themselves?

Last I checked most states have US military bases and National Guard.

Other than colorado , every state ever stationed in was a bunch of fucking parasites who thought the GI's were a nuisance , yet were glad to screw us any possible way for a nickle.

Most states constitutions only allow for succession when 30+ other states also secede. Your example is not likely to happen.

It depends on the economy at that point in time. When Lincoln created the civil war...the nation was poverty ridden and joining his war efforts earned them 2 meals a day, warmth, and shelter.

Any state that leaves the Union must consider a military confrontation with Federal troops. The best defense is a solid offense. The state should strategically smash Washington D.C., NorthCom, CIA, ATF, FBI, and any others that try to move against their borders. Take a look at the Mexican Cartels, Hezbollah, Hamas.

the National Guard (which in times of peace is under the state Governor. I know, perpetual state of war and all aside) is made up of residents of the state who I think would be less-likely to fire upon their neighbors than would be a German soldier who has been ordered to do so. Riot control at first? yeah, but not the full on military occupation like was seen in Iraq.

I feel the same about out-of-state Guard too. I don't think they'd occupy, maybe fire a few rounds like at Kent State, but not prolonged action.

regular army, marine corp, navy, and air force bases would be manned by people from all over the country (and world) so there isn't a local attachment but for many there may be a patriotic one.
