What happened to the GLP Telescope?

They're working on it. Be patient. These things usually take longer than initially expected (even itelescope's Siding Spring observatory is no exception, it's many months over-due and still being constructed). It's not a "scam" it's quite real, I've been there myself a number of times, and it has been made available for use online a number of times as well. My understanding is that they're currently working on getting the main telescope up and running online, which is an enormous undertaking considering the goals of the project (to make it both user friendly and fully controllable).

Using the telescope, people eventually started to get wind the sky is just one big hologram anyway, so it needed to be shut down.

Thanks. I was very interested in the idea with all the "elenin" talk going on a while back. Of course it came and went but I thought it would still be very cool for everyone to make use of it for star gazing or whatever regardless. Just got very confused and then mad when I stopped hearing about it because I know people really donated a large amount of money to it. Trinity, it you're watching, I think people would really appreciate some news or updates on the scope from time to time.

No not really.. I think the donations were up to about $6,000. $6,000 out of the $250,000 it cost isint really that much.

It takes a lot of time and effort to do this...

It's not like this is some off the shelf plug and play adventure here..

yea the 20" is a whole nother beast as you well know...

coding the final version of the drivers for that is going to be the last thing we do but I also hope to have that done by the end of the year along with the new front end software

there isn't much support out there for the 20" maxmount as far as drivers go so it's going to take some additional work to get that perfected

though we do have it moving around with our own beta driver right now... e,w,n,s

so that's a good sign

They shut down the sky? FUUUCK!

Don't listen to these people. They'll keep telling you its some technical problem forever and ever. But what they don't realize is that nothing is wrong with their telescope, something is wrong with the sky, i.e., its a hologram. Sigh.

Yeah, I'm calling out Trinity and Astromut. Prove me wrong. Prove me wrong.

No problem man, those trips up there were great. Yeah, the maxmount support is frankly abysmal considering the cost of the thing. I'm looking forward to seeing the new software with voice chat incorporated. That's really exciting, it should make for some awesome online star parties and shows.
