I get a 1 gallon zip lock bag and throw a rotting piece of banana or the peel into the bottom corner of it. I seal 2/3rds of the bag and leave the other 1/3 of the bag open so the fruti flies will fly into it. When enough get in the bag, I just cover up the opening and trap them inside and then smash then all! It is a great way to releave stress and is much faster than the other methods like using vinegar or fly traps. If someone has a better idea, I would love to hear it. I killed about 100 fruit flies in the last hour. What a pain in the butt.

You cannot eradicate them completely. They pop into existence from nothing.

But your game sounds cool.

Makes sense since they come in as larvae on the skin of bananas. They love the stuff. Had them recently, the cider didn't work well, wish I knew about this then. My bananas stay on the porch now.

Um, my 12 yr old daughter had some of her lunch rotting thrown in a closet and that is how we ended up with the problem. That mess got cleaned up but now the flies are everywhere and just trying to get rid of them fast. I am trying hard to keep every surface/floor/ etc extremely clean. That should help but it is really annoying that when I am trying to serve a meal or sip a drink there is another fly swarming my food or trying to get into my drink.
Pathetic!

Great idea. Problem is they are inside my house, not outside. I wouldn't want those praying mantis's inside my house. Hmmm, I wonder if it will work being that it is 30 degree outside and winter. Today is snowed here in Washington.

How rude!
Have a kid who does not like to eatsomething in their lunch and they forget to clean it out or hide it somewhere thinking mom won't find out.
You must not have kids.

Leaving a half a glass of really expensive scotch unattended for a moment seems to work pretty well.

Wash and lysol all garbage pails, especially the kitchen, and then leave bowls of vinegar out. That's what worked for me.

You have to eliminate their breeding ground. Treat all drains daily, eliminate all food sources. No standing water anywhere.

True. If they are still a problem, then you haven't found their nest.

They love co2. I have used flour, yeast, sugar, and water to attract them. Trying to make bread is difficult with them around.

Damn ... I hate when that happens...

No-Pest Strips work great! Unfortunately, I think they are toxic so I only use them in an emergency. I have a small covered composting bin in the kitchen to sequester kitchen scraps. That helps too.

Re: Got fruit fly problems? I have got a great way to kill them!
I take a bowl and pour in some wine(it attracts them) and add a few pieces of fruit (apples, peaches, etc.)

I then cover the bowl with plastic wrap and poke a few holes in the plastic. The flies are able to enter through the wholes but they can not leave.

Using this method it takes a few days to clear out the fruit flies and you will have to replace the wine, fruit and plastic wrap (depending upon how many flies you have) but it's simple trap and it works
