They want you to buy as it is just another way to fleece you. They give you a shocking exchange rate, then straight away sell it at a better rate on the open market.

They do the same when you want to convert back to another denomination.

most Banks sell various currencies for customers who travel overseas..unless they was trying to sell you a specific currency for investments sounds normal to me.

The ONLY thing you should be investing in HARD SILVER. It's a bargain right now compared to gold. Get the ACTUAL coins to...don't accept an 'IOU' that says you now own silver.

DO NOT BUY FIAT unless you really like throwing your money into a burning fire.

Sounds to me like they were just letting you know that you can buy foreign currency through them, rather than a foreign exchange kiosk or something. Maybe they just added this service and are letting customers know. In the OP you say that the letter states you "could" purchase it. If you have no need for foreign currency then you wouldn't buy any. Seems pretty self explanatory to me.

When the dollar is going to collapse, you can bet your bank won't be sending letters out to warn their customers beforehand.
