Tourney prizes were sometimes paid in the persons weight in spices , like cinnamon, clove, saffron and nutmeg. And look up true historic info on salt. People built giant stone walls to protect their salt settlements. All thing we can get now cheap. later not so much. Oh and learn to grow orchids. |

Will seperate it into 1 tablespoon size portions to barter. People only need hot water to make it. As much as I hate instant coffee, it will taste much better in a SHTF scenario. I have some reservations about bartering with alcohol until things stabilize. Do not want a bunch of drunks showing up with an idea of looting. You might be the best outdoorsman in the outback but when TSHTF, the predators of the four-legged variety will be, at best, a secondary concern. |

Do not want a bunch of drunks showing up with an idea of looting. Roasting coffee is easy and fun. Unroasted (raw-green) coffee beans keep well for 6-9 months, longer, but flavour degrades a bit after a year or two. I keep a large supply beans stored in burlaps sacks. ;-`) Tobacco will also be in high demand. (I have nearly 500 packs of rolling papers stored. LoL.) You may be great with working with your hands but if you have a diabetic wife and two kids to take care of then you will have far less chances to survive than some psychopathic loner. You will simply not have any mobility. If we experience a slow economic collapse, the best suited are those with farm land, no matter what skills they have...anyone can raise a rooster and plant a small garden (well, almost anyone)..those in the cities will starve. The truth is..we don't know what the future holds so we cannot really understand who will survive and who will not we can just prepare |

I've heard claims that it lasts 10 to 20 years. One can of this beef stew on top of a big batch of rice feeds a good number of people. Pretty grim. When asked what he would have stockpiled had he known what was coming, he said "1,000 Bic lighters!" I've always thought a supply of inexpensive reading glasses from the dollar store in various diopter strengths would be worth a lot, too.
