I don't know anything about natural gas and how it burns/blows in comparison to methane but...
I was in an adjacent room in a motel when another room had a gas explosion and the results were Nothing like this!

It blew the front wall out of the room, cracked the other three walls and tore part of the front wall off the room below. It was an explosive fire ball but nothing (as in furniture or even the man in the room attempting suicide) caught on fire. Even the open gas jets were not actually burning, they were just still spewing gas.

Idk... That California fire story reeked too.
