Chances are less than 20% of your income goes to Federal taxes
I recently found a chart showing the effective tax rate for various segments of the population over the past 33 years. I was surprised to see that taxes are so low. About a fifth of your income.

Even more surprising is the effective tax rate for corporate taxes. It is common Grover Norquist propaganda to say that "America has the highest corporate tax rate in the world." Total B.S. The effective tax rate for corporations is only about 3%.

Looking at the data, you can tell that many of our budget problems have been caused by unsustainably low taxes. Ronald Reagan, George Bush, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama already spent the money. The question is whether you love your country enough to actually pay for what they bought. For many posters, I'm guessing that the answer is no.

Hilarious that people automatically cry shill when confronted with information that does not fit their ideology. I have a friend who recently posted a graph on a social networking site. He created the graph by plotting GDP grown in blue and plotting the highest marginal tax rate in red. His point? The highest marginal tax rate has NOTHING to do with GDP growth.

"Conservatives" (in quotations because Republican/Tea Partiers have no idea what conservative means and have no idea why they believe some of the nonesense that TPTB have spoonfed to them) who commented on his post claimed that it was "propaganda" downloaded from "liberal talking points." They all had egg on their face when he said that he was the creator of the graph.

Your ideology is killing this country.

My federal rate is 36%, and has usually been higher throughout my entire working life

even when I was right out of college, making entry level wages, nearly half my paycheck would vanish between Fed and NYC NYS taxes

The reason I moved to a no tax state is because I know the Feds are insatiable and won't be happy until they take half my paycheck just for themselves...never mind inept and badly run states who need their cut as well

but there is no way to have a job which supports market rent anyplace I know, and pay a mere 20% tax rate.....

I guess OP lives in a cardbox box to believe this shillery...LMFAO

My data is about Federal taxes. What NY decides to tax you is between you and New York.

Let's see if your numbers add up. What was your effective Federal tax rate? What is your annual income? What is the dollar amount that you paid in taxes?

And, have you thought about hiring an accountant to do your taxes? The total effective rate for the top 1% of earners was only 29% in 2007. Sounds like you're not playing the game well enough.

6)Property Taxes-This may or may not include special provisions for additional school dist/water dist/police/fire/EMT assessments.
7)City income Tax...NY for example

The corporate tax rate you refer to is = capital gains an individual recieves / individual income * 15% capital gains tax rate. It has nothing to do with what taxes a corporation pays, just what a person pays. As it is 5% or so for top 20%', shows that 1/3 off their income is capital gains ... 1/3* 15%.

What this actually shows is that even after all Reagan and Bush tax cuts, the richest quartile pay about the same dropped from 27.5 to 25. But, all other groups dropped by 4% or more.

Thus, the narrative that rich get all the breaks are bogus. So, if people want more like health care, we all should pay into it as HC taxes will wipe out that 2.5% reduction in taxes for top quartile.

And others only pay 4% to 17%, so is that fair and balanced?

You also need to realize that s on total income. If you do it where spouse goes and works, the effective tax rate is 35% plus 7.65% FICA for 42.5% plus state and local.

Who is John Galt?

Keynes himself said that direct subjective taxation was unnecessary in his economic model. But he told the politicians they would be "allowed" to keep doing it to implement social engineering. He was the best low IQ, sexually confused, occult worshiping snake oil salesman ever. Better than Hitler, Pol Pot, Mao, Alister Crowley, etc.

This is the best answer yet... a tax is a tax as far as I look at it... and the Federal is just one relatively small bit of a large chunk.

Add to this the matching FICA that your employer (or you, if you employ yourself). This is a hidden tax -- 6% right there.

Inflation may be the biggest hidden tax of all.

You clearly don't know how marginal tax rates work. Your federal rate is 36% only on the dollars you earn between certain levels of income, not on all of the money that you make. Your tax rate on the first $17,000 that you earn is the same as the guy who only makes $17,000. The money you earn above a certain level is taxed at higher rates. And since the highest marginal tax rate in the country right now is only 35% (for households earning over $388,351 per year), you're doubly full of crap.

So call me a shill and a troll and a person who lives in a cardboard box all you want. The numbers, however, are on my side. You Grover Norquist Disciples are completely scared of raw data because it forces you to confrot the fact that what you believe in is a total lie.

And this is not about the left/right paradigm. This is about Republican policies being total bullshit and the fact that the country will go bankrupt if we don't fix our spending/revenue problems. If you want to hand the country over to the NWO the, by all means, keep cutting taxes and keep letting us sink into further fiscal Bolivian (thank you Mike Tyson) as a nation.
