I honestly try to forgive and try to love people on my travels thru life but this situation has gotton the better of me.

I would like to say to this brings a smile to my face. Indeed it is most fitting, these people held the balance in their hand of the election and voted for the treats which there now none.

Ha fucking HA, I may be in the same boat sometime soon but I hope you neanderthal fuckers ROT FIRST..

I realy do, It`s hard to forgive the "me me me" crowd..

The state has federal guidelines. The USDA oversees the food stamp program.

The "standard utility allowance" was decreased by 166. dollars.

The state dept. of Job and Family Services tried to appeal the decision, but was denied by USDA. From the Toledo Blade article:

“This is a federal issue,” said Joel Potts, executive director of the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services Directors’ Association. “It is what it is. They have a formula. ... Man oh man! You guys are really on a mission to make sure nothing gets done about this!

In order to do something about a problem.. you need the facts and you need to know who the right people to confront are.

Otherwise... you are blowing hot air into our atmosphere for no reason!

Ohio legislators are the ones who would dictate how much is given for support to those in need, in Ohio.

The Feds have nothing to do with this.

Fed bashing will get you nowhere fast.

Go after the group responsible and you may have a leg to stand on when you confront them with "factual" info.

If true, once Obama gets word of this it'll get fixed ASAP.
What the article doesn't put into account is the rising food prices, that seems relative to the equation. I have a feeling that the least among us will not go a day hungery next year, because of the Feds anyway..

It's not going to be just Ohio. Scroll to the bottom and look at the chart under "Impacted by House Standard Utility Allowance Change."

Those 15 states are ones that will be impacted by only the utility allowance change. Count on more changes and more states following.

Yes, I did notice that. Got me curious enough to dig further and it looks like Ohio must be being rewarded by being the first state that's been told.
--------------------------

The resolution introduced today would offer an official complaint against agriculture bills passed by the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives that would make deep cuts to SNAP benefits, which are federally funded and locally administered. A Senate agriculture bill passed in June would reduce national SNAP funding by $4.5 billion over 10 years; a measure passed in July by the House Agriculture Committee would cut $16 billion over the next decade. (The full House will not deliberate the farm bill until after the general election on November 6.)

Here's one that's not in the East:
----------------
Texas has the third-highest rate of food insecurity in the nation — 18.5 percent of households struggled to acquire enough healthy food in 2011, according to a report released Wednesday by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Although 14.7 percent of U.S. households had difficulty affording healthy food at some point in 2011, the federal government is considering cutting $16 billion from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, commonly known as food stamps, as part of a national effort to tighten the federal budget.

More than 3 million Americans, including 302,800 Texans, will lose food stamp benefits in 2013 if the U.S. Congress approves proposed federal cuts to the SNAP, according to the federal Office of Management and Budget. That’s about 8.5 percent of Texans enrolled in the program as of June 2012.

The proposed $16 billion cut “would result not only in families losing their benefits, but it would really undermine Texas’ efforts to encourage families to save,” said Celia Cole, chief executive officer of the Texas Food Bank Network. Texas has raised the asset limit for those who qualify for SNAP benefits in order to encourage households to save money and work toward long-term solutions to pull the family out of poverty, rather than continuously depend on government aid. If the proposed cuts are approved, Texas would have to revert to federal standards on asset limits, and many Texans would no longer qualify for benefits. “You could potentially have someone with a $6,000 car get kicked off the program," Cole said.

“Despite anecdotes of food stamp abuse, SNAP recipients shop for nutritious food for their families,” the Houston Chronicle editorial said. “At a major grocery chain in Houston, the top three most-purchased items with SNAP were bananas, bread and tomatoes.”

And Oklahoma:
---------------------
Students could lose SNAP aid with budget cuts

Two hundred dollars doesn’t sound like much, but for Susana Rodriguez, it could mean the difference between a full fridge and a bare one.

Rodriguez is a single mother pursuing her master’s degree in computer science at OU. She works on the side to help pay for school — she doesn’t have scholarships — and she also receives $200 a month from the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. Her 5-year-old son, Alex Mendez, also gets free meals automatically thanks to Rodriguez's receiving the federal aid.

But that all might change for Rodriguez and other students receiving federal aid from SNAP as the U.S. Legislative branch fights over how to make cuts to the federal aid program as part of the 2012 Farm Bill.

Both the U.S. House of Representatives and the Senate want to limit access to SNAP aid for traditional college students by limiting access to only students pursuing employment-oriented degrees that are typically associated with vocational and technical schools. This may make it difficult for students not in these types of programs to qualify for aid unless they meet other eligibility requirements such as having a child under 5 or participating in a work study program.

The House’s bill — which claims to save taxpayers $16 billion — cuts SNAP further by restricting automatic qualification for SNAP only to those receiving cash assistance thus forcing states to reinstate asset tests that could make it harder for families to meet the income requirements for SNAP benefits.

Oklahomans Benefit from Wide-Spread Fight Against Hunger as U.S. Congress Targets Nutrition Program

While Oklahoma tops USDA’s list as the hungriest state in the nation, federal lawmakers are debating cuts to nutrition programs that will affect the food banks in Oklahoma.

The Agriculture Committee’s proposal earlier this week would affect 22 million low-income households nation-wide and compromise their basic well-being. Based on this proposal, every SNAP household would have their benefits cut, and nearly 2 million Americans would be removed entirely from the SNAP program. Working families and seniors would be hit disproportionately. According to the Congressional Budget Office, 280,000 children would lose free school meals because their families receive SNAP benefits.

In Oklahoma last year, 620,791 Oklahomans state-wide received benefits through the SNAP program, which was the highest number of unduplicated cases in our state’s history. Seventy-six percent of these households included a child, senior or disabled person.

And Mississippi:
--------------------------
Will Proposed Cuts to SNAP Hurt Missississippi?

The U.S. House of Representatives is looking to cut more than $16 billion from the federally-funded Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program or SNAP. MPB's Daniel Cherry has more on how that could affect Mississippi.

More Mississippi residents use SNAP, formerly known as food stamps, per capita than any other state. David Noble with the Mississippi Department of Human Services, who administers SNAP, thinks cuts will hurt their budget...and that means the state won't be able to reach as many low-income residents.

"It would reduce dollars that are available for outreach efforts to get those people on the rolls, if we're going to serve and be serving 100% of eligible individuals."

Hopefully this will serve as a wake up call for the few smart enough to heed it...

It's a good idea for anyone using the SNAP or food benefits, to plan to be affected. Whether by cutting back, learning to cook, planning a spring garden, putting some food and garden seeds aside, or whatever means they have.

Starvation may very well be coming to America, and family, friends, neighbors, would be the best help, instead of relying on government.

Sadly, that seems to be a thing of the past. Maybe it will be different in the future. If not, starvation looks like a certainty for many.

Lots of people on this site all gung-ho to point out how Romney would have been just as bad, banksters this, politicians that, blah blah blah. They miss the big point though. Whether or not Romney would have been just as bad, right or wrong the public perception is Romney = work and responsibility for self, Obama = handouts and nanny state.

This is the first election in my lifetime that there was no pretense to hide that difference and the people voted for nanny state.
 Quoting: No Dhimmi

What I'm about to post has been posted in the past.

It is true.

Some will blow it off or disagree because you can't or won't accept this but:

The reason is that in a poor economy with jobs going to China most people that have the perception of Romney and Obama that you stated heard the GOP debates about cutting benefits and welfare yet wanting to expand wars.

Don't argue with me, don't deny it. Maybe that reasoning is wrong maybe it's right but THAT is they way people see it whether you agree with it or not.

It's not simply work ethics, it's much more than what you are trying to paint it.

I'm really not so worried about the kids since they get free breakfasts and lunches at school. Some schools even serve supper. IDK - this is a tough situation. With our budgets getting further and further in the red, there will have to be cuts which will affect everyone to some extent. You don't want to see people losing what they have come to expect, but reality is a slap in the face and we all need to be realistic about this situation. Food Stamp Cuts Could Hit Military Members, Veterans

WASHINGTON -- Congress' push to cut food stamps could cause collateral damage in the military, hitting everyone from active-duty members to retirees, who together have used more than $100 million in federal food aid on military bases over the past year, a Huffington Post review of the data found.

Decrying the surge in food stamp costs since the start of the recession, politicians increasingly have been calling for a crackdown on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP. The program has expanded from covering 26 million Americans in 2007 to more than 44 million in 2011.
