Update: Cuts to Ohio food assistance to be less than estimated What’s called the “standard utility allowance” — the amount deducted from a person’s income when the state determines his or her eligibility for the food stamp program — will decrease in 2013, which originally translated to about $50 less monthly per household in food assistance. State Job and Family Services officials tried to appeal the change to the Agriculture Department, which oversees the food stamp program, officially known as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program — or SNAP — but the department had denied the request. However, on Thursday, the state’s Department of Job and Family Services asked the Agriculture Department to use a different calculation that takes into account the cost of electric heat and propane. The federal department approved the change Friday. As a result, households’ monthly benefit will decrease by $23 instead of $50. Ohio is doing it and others may follow, states the article. This is your uncaring governor Kasich, you fools who vote for republicans. I agree that seniors should be made an exception. I am one, and worked hard all my life to support my kids because of a deadbeat husband who would not work and support his children. Never received any public assistance then. Now I need it, as my income is only Soc Security reduced because of a very small $200 state pension also. So they cut my food assistance to $34.00 per month, after all my years of paying for others that need help, I barely get any. Can you believe $34.00. That is an insult. Why bother at all. |
| 12983932 User ID: 12983932 12/29/2012 02:02 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Another thing that is wrong with food stamp and Medicaid for indigent is that they allow these people to have more and more children while they are on assistance, and increase their aid every time a new child or pregnancy occurs. How much sense does that make. I can see if someone has a work history and is laid off, unemployed, and has 3 kids, they should get the help while looking for work. But not someone who keeps having kids they can't afford or won't work to support them. Someone who is already on public assistance should get benefits for the first one, and no more. Let them do some family planning or unplanning. The cost Medicaid is staggering for all of these children, much more than food assistance. And it was just in the news Ohio had spent billions less on Medicaid than expected the last two years. Why are they cutting food stamps anyway and not making provisions for those who really need them and can't work any more. Vote Kasich out. |

Ya really can't fault the government for cutting back food stamps, wasting money like that on citizens when there's so many needy countries that haven't received Americas inexpensive blessing of freedom, peace and security yet, like these fortunate ones.. Quoting: Nika Why not start with the young and lazy who are perfectly capable of working a job or planting a garden? My heart goes out to the little old man and that sweet old lady who may go hungry. they dont want the elderly because they are a burdon on them my own mother and her roomy mate have serious ills and in the last three months alone racked up 20,000 dollars in ambulance rides to the hospital the truth is not a soul on ss has put in as much as they already received back the govt wants this to end and death is the only way "there is a generation that neither toils yet eats" the social security age is these folks 45% of america is on a free ride and they love it. 23% are unemployed or gave up. 30% are paying for the whole system and 2% are rich and laugh all the way to the bank. "one third of the fish die in the sea" means the ones paying are going under from the debt piled upon their heads. Where is all the money that congress took from our SS over the years? Don't cry about me getting SS now. $20,000 in Ambulance rides? Somebody is gauging the fuck out of people with their prices. How about $100 for a hospital ride? That ought to be more than enough. The prices that doctors and hospital prices are outrageous. We need to hang a few to get prices more in line with reality. You lazy fucks need to get back to work and stop crying about old folks taking your damn money. |
