I hope they have got the forecast wrong. Can't stand snow, except on Christmas cards.

fellow Brits, where are u and have you had snow this early in the season in the past??

sounds silly...but after Somerset (and other places) getting snow on the 4th Nov....which is pretty early for down south (not including the Mendips which have there own weather system at times lol)

you expect it up north... but the 4th was def early for us down here...

They also said we'd have one of the worst winters ever last year, but it was completely the opposite. We never had any snow at all after last christmas and only a bit before.

lots of hot drinks soups ect layers of clothing not bulk
keep one room warm if you can't afford to heat whole home if your in trouble don't be afraid to ask for help.
hot water bottles help , thermos flask prevent the need to keep going out to the kitchen ,and keep drinks hotter for longer.
keep your head warm we lose much of body heat from the head .

some strange thins gnu on with the weather

I have lived here in London since 89 - from 89 to 2008 I have seen snow of about two inches or more no more than TWICE. In the last TWO years or is it three we have had sometimes 6 inches minimum 3. This year wuill be the third or fourth and this is unheard of...! I repeat UNHEARD of for London.

BRITAIN will grind to a halt within weeks as the most savage freeze for a century begins.

I feel your pain. I live in NJ, USA, and we're expecting a lot of snow this winter. First the hurricane, then blizzards. I may never leave my house. Two years ago we had snow on the ground for nearly 8 weeks because it was so cold it never melted. HATED IT. I'm going to buy the best thermal underwear I can find.

It got to -17 where i live in 2010. The Grampians even got as low as -27.2 in the early 80's.

Cant help but have this feeling the Entire UK is going to get a cold snap of -10 nation wide one winter.

I bet places up north get -20 easy this year.

thing is, i know they said it would be cold last year and then it ended up being milder...but this year we are also going though a quieter solar phase (as i understand it...correct me if im wrong by all means) so i can truely see it happening....

i de-iced the car ONCE last year, that was it!!!....i have already woken up to 2 hard frosts sofar this season...

Last year, in the NE US, we had a very mild winter as well. My heating bills were almost nothing. I think this year is the big freeze for us.

Its the cold summer and cold sept/oct which are making me think that by mid december its probably going to be hitting -10 every day.

Wouldn't shock me if it did hit -20 in late dec early jan.

Once its lower than -10 its not to be scoffed at..... as unfit persons really shouldn't be moving around so much, especially not alone in isolated areas.

You have only got to slip and hurt yourself or get wet an exposure will kill you.

I can't hang me Y-fronts out on the line to dry cos they'll turn into ice lollies. I can use them for target practice instead... put another asshole in me undies.

us northerners are used to it!! Get 1mm of snow "darn sarf" and you all panic buy food and cant drive anywhere! LOL
